Give the Civil Aviation Authority an e-mail. That will prompt Thomson to speed up.

Think it is a bit of a contest regarding who is slower in my experience. I have a number of emails to CAA awaiting a response. When they do reply the response is not an answer to the question being asked however in fairness to the CAA they must be inundated with people contacting them as the extraordinary circumstances wording leaves a lot to interpretation IMO.

Still waiting on British Airways, sent them a prod by email today

    "Customer Relations,

I write to remind you of my outstanding claim for flight delay compensation – case reference xxxxxxxx

I sent an initial letter dated 10 September 2012 by post (copy attached) to which I received the below email. Please note also that the your customer relations representative quoted the wrong flight number. The correct number and full details are contained in the attached letters.

I further re-sent by post a formal claim dated 27 October 2012 (copy attached) after the ECU verdict on Regulation 261/2004 with regard to flight delays. I have waited 8 weeks and I have received no response to this letter.

I am aware that BA has begun to meet its responsibilities due under Regulation 261/2004 and I find it both frustrating and extremely disappointing that my claim would appear to have been ignored. It seems to be further evidence of British Airways unfortunate decline in standards.

Thankyou in advance for your attention in this matter."

The claim is for a ~4.5hr delay LHR-ATH in August, we were informed that the reason was "engine failure".

The first post letter was an intention to lodge a claim - unsurprisingly at that time they said to the effect sorry we do not pay delay claims.

The second post letter was a formal re-statement of the claim - no reply - guess they are busy ;-)

Will update if this elicits a response from them.

(update: oops, should've said "nearly 8 weeks" - oh well)
  • Hi

I received a letter and forms to complete from Thomson Airways today, almost 2 months after initially contacting them to complain about our 24+ hour delay from Cancun to Gatwick.

I have a couple of concerns - (1) It says I need the actual times for check in and landing, can this be approximate? (2) They say they need my boarding pass, which I don't think I have any more. Do you think this will be a deal breaker for the compensation claim?

If the delay is that long I can't see it being a problem if you just put the departure times. As it's obviously over the time limit. As for boarding cards I do not think so, as long as you have the booking reference
  • Has anyone tried claiming from Thomson with regards the recent ruling over flight delays. I sent them the letter template most people seem to use and had a written reply today with forms to fill in. One thing they need id the boarding pass attached to the form. We sadly do not have these,is this a legal requirment that they need them or are they chancing there arm that most people won't have them? Any suggestions gratefully received.

I had a delay of 25 hours to Mexico in Jan 11. I tried then, and am still trying now! Using solicitors through my house insurance and the plan is to start court proceedings in the New Year.

At the time a poor excuse was given. I can't remember exactly, but something along the lines of the flight previous to ours from Skiathos was delayed due to a technical issue which had a knock-on effect on our flight.

They are also claiming a "knock-on effect" for my claim and refuse compensation - can I ask what the next step you took was

    Hi
My details were I was supposed to get tc flight on 16th dec Tenerife to Glasgow at 3.10 don't have number for flight on me
We were delayed until 4.20 when all passengers were called to a meeting saying the the emergency chute had opened at one of the doors they would have to take 70 passengers off plane and put them on another flight
My husband and I were taken off even though I had medical problems and told we would get a later flight
Tc then moved us to a thomsons flight at 8.35 to Manchester meaning we arrived about 1am the next morning and then had to bus it to Glasgow arriving at 6 approx
We were supposed to have arrived in Glasgow at 8pm on Sunday night however it was 6ish on Monday morning
I take it this would come under compensation as it was only selected passengers this happened to plus my husband has looked into the flight we had and tc had reported faults with emergency chute so it is a problem thy had known about
