I take it that there wasn't snow, or an ash cloud, or anything *extraordinary* on that day? Were other planes taking off and landing?

    Sorry to be a pain.

I ask the reason and then reply to that for compensation or hit them from the first letter with it?

I personally would like to know the reason for the delay.

However some airlines will only give vague answers to such requests if at all.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left!

    Hello again,

I just got off the phone to Charter travel who were helpful. She is forwarding my original booking so i'm just waiting on that.

BUT she told me the flight was scheduled for 07.15 am.

But there was an 8 hr delay according to the check in staff? The 8 hrs will be from the official departure time won't it?
As long as you *landed* in Florida more than 5 hours after the scheduled arrival time then your claim satisfies the delay maximum table.

Don't bother asking them the reason....

You are forgetting that passengers need to be reasonable with their correspondence with airlines.

On arrival there we were informed of an 8 hour delay.

Were you given a written sheet with the reason for the delay?

There isn't a space on the claim form for correspondance, ie a polite request for the reason for the delay.
This should have been determined at check in anyway, if Simon was informed of an 8 hour delay from the off.
It's unlikely to be an extraordinary circumstance with that length of delay, assuming there's a negative answer to my earlier question about snow and other weather related circumstances.
I'd also include hurricane activity Florida end with my ask.

Simon should have a clue what the delay was for, surely? Why would he be asking otherwise?

Every time someone asked the reasons we were told it was delayed taking off the other end and would be here soon or some other story.

Thats y things turned nasty there between some passengers and workers as i mentioned before with the guy who was escorted off the site. My main concern was the kids so we sort of naively went with the flow if u get what i mean.

We heard lots of different things like engine problems and a part was being flown down but then people realised the plane wasnt even at cardiff. We also heard the door wouldnt close tidy but it was all off second hand sources.

To my knowledge and memory there was no officisl reason given and when we were told we were boarding we all were just happy to be going esp us as it was our first holiday abroad.

I do remember we were given food coupons but cant remember if anything came with it. Had so much paperwork that if we did it just went in my carry on bag and once we arrived (if i did have anything) i would have thrown it.

Is that an important issue if we were given anything?
  • Forgot to say there were no weather issues or ash clouds etc.

It is best to get formal, written information from the airline about the reason for a delay, and then take it from there.

Don't bother asking them the reason, let the claim take it's course and then decide what to do once the reason has been given.
Use the Monarch claim form on Blindmans oft repeated FAQ's post, send it off (I say recorded but others differ) with all the paperwork.
You'll have to fill out a seperate claim form for all the adults, but the lead passenger can claim on behalf of the children.

Blindmans oft repeated FAQ's post - what is that please?
