Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

We were a party of 3 returning from Paris to Leeds & Bradford Airport, with Jet 2, our flight was delayed 9 hours, from 6pm. until 3.00am. We were offered a drink, and later a sandwich and drink. The delay was due to a fault on the plane and they had to get another one from England. I wrote to them within a day or so, and they responded that they had received my complaint and would respond within 38 days of receipt of my letter. I gave them longer than that and wrote again, still no response. Maybe this is their way of dealing with complaints. The knock on effect of this delay was missing work, travel from airport in the early hours of the morning etc. Compensation would be nice, but what do I do next.0

Sooo frustrated reading this - we had delays of nearly 36 hours flying with Tor Air - and I had lots of emails flying between me, them and the Greek CAA trying to get compensation afterwards.
Was waiting for this case to finish, kept all the paperwork, and have now discovered that they went bust....0 -
A couple of days before we were due to fly to Cuba we were informed by Cubana Airilines that our flight had been put back 23 hours. We actually took off 1 hour late making a one day delay.
I wrote to Cubana asking for compensation for the one nights hotel accommodation we could not use but had paid for.
They responded by ceasing operations from the UK. We were leaving from an EU country. What advice can anyone provide?0 -
Hi,
Would someone be able to clarify for me: are claims for *flights* that take off from within the EU or for *airlines* that are registered in the EU?
More specifically, would a cancelled flight from Heathrow to Niarobi with Kenyan Airlines be considered?
Thanks in advance,

Found out the airline had all the details they have confirmed the flights I caught and are sending the flight booking confirmations I was booked on.
I'm checking the flight I caught was the one I was booked on as if bumped to a later flight may look like the flight was not delayed.....Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0 -
...if the flight was delayed by a decision by Virgin Atlantic not to fly back from Havana to Gatwick?
The flight was delayed 24 hours, and I suppose they looked after us by providing accommodation and meals, but the flight back was poor because they hadn't connected the aircraft to the mains and all the food on board went off.
For a 9-hour flight, there was a glass of orange juice and champagne (we'd upgraded the return flight), a Gu chocolate pudding and a stale bread roll. They did serve it with stainless steel cutlery and china plates, though!:j0 -
Lots of FAQ's answered with these links
Just to start:
Airline bust= no claim
Anything over 6 years old you can't go to court to claim
Anything from 17th Feb 2005 -you can claim but if the airline says no - you can't take them to court.
Package holiday flights ARE covered.
Technical fault with plane is NOT "extra ordinary circumstances" so you CAN claim
Claiming may not be a walk in the park.Just trawled through both threads and have compiled some links to FAQ's
It's not comprehensive but may cut down the oft repeated questions

It has taken me a while but I have managed to read all of some 123 pages on this subject!
Just wanted to say Thank You for all who have contributed to this most interesting and informative topic.
I am now going to make a claim against a tour company for a miserable delay of over 4 hours at Hurghada airport last year.
I now feel more confident having been informed as to the requirements and procedures required.
Once again, Many Thanks! :TI started out with nothing and I still have most of it left!0 -

The flight was delayed 24 hours,
So you should be able to claim-depends on why they delayed the flight?
and I suppose they looked after us by providing accommodation and meals,
They did the "right to care"
