Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

Hi guys,
Just wondering if i am eligible for compensation? Our circumstances are as follows:
Original flights from Manchester to Las Vegas with a connection in Philadelphia. Overall travel time approx 15hrs.
The previous flight was late to arrive in Manchester which resulted in our flight being delayed 1 hour. This caused us to miss our connection in Philadelphia and be re-routed Manchester>Philadelphia>Charlotte>Las Vegas. Overall travel time: Approx 18 hours.
Got on the first plane to Philadelphia to find my screen was broken and i had to sit on an 8 hour flight with no means of entertainment. The airlines means of compensating me for this was providing me with a free set of headphones for the inflight entertainment system (which normally cost £5). Although i'm not entirely sure what they expected me to do with these as my screen didnt work!!!
We arrived in Philadelphia and were sat down on the plane to Charlotte on time. Prior to arriving on the runway the rain picked up and we were unable to fly. We were sat on the plane for around 2 hours before sitting off.
Finally arrived in Charlotte after the weather calmed down to be told our flight was delayed and to go to gate. Got to the gate and the plane had left an hour earlier and the gate was closed.
Spoke to the airline desk and found out the next flight to Vegas was in 12 hours and full. and the next flight to vegas in 24hours had very limited seating due to the US democrat party campaigning in Charlotte and the airport being packed. They did not offer us any food / phonecalls / accomodation at this time, but they could give us a number for cheap hotels if we wanted. The only other option than sit in Charlotte for 24 hours was a 3hr 30 flight to Minneapolis and a 7 hour wait there before finally getting a flight to Vegas. We accepted this and arrived in Minnesota a few hours later. Minneapolis was deserted and no respresentatives there to help us. We ended up sleeping on the floor at the gate before finally boarding a plane to Vegas. Overall travel time 29 hours.
We finally arrived in Vegas after missing the first night of our holiday.
I know the bulk of the issues were due to adverse weather but i think they were extremely poorly handled, being offered no food, no accomodation and no phonecalls. The price of food / drink over the 29 hour journey came to a hefty amount not to mention losing a night in the hotel / phonecalls to ensure the hotel reservation wasnt cancelled and phonecalls back home letting family members know where i was.
Am i likely to receive any compensation for this or will the airline just reply saying it wasnt their fault?
Many thanks
edit: forgot to mention other passengers on the original flight were offered a flight from Philadelphia to Vegas approx 3 hours after the first was scheduled.0 -

Your flight was cancelled plain and simple. Cancellation of a flight is defined in Article 2 of Reg 261/2004 as follows:
(l) "cancellation" means the non-operation of a flight which was previously planned and on which at least one place was reserved.
The original flight planning was for a flight departing LBA and arriving in TFS I presume? As your re-routed flight departed from MAN it follows that this was a cancellation and you were re-routed on a different flight from MAN to TFS.
Thanks for the swift feedback Centipede100.
Would the flight still be classed as cancelled even though TC operated the same flight number out of Manchester instead of the original airport LBA ?0 -

Try googling David Harbord v Thomas Cook airlines, you'll find the similarities quite amazing (airline, passengers asked to take same numbered flight from different airport etc etc)!!!
Yes you're correct, the similarities are there to see.
So i've checked my house insurance and we don't have legal expenses cover - !!!!!!!! However after looking at a few of the web sites that claim to get refunds, it still sounds like the airlines are waiting for the upcoming ruling and nothing is guaranteed at the moment.
I've logged a complaint with the customer services website but will send a further letter stating my intent to claim on the outcome of the ruling and wait and see what happens I think.
Thanks for the advice so far, its greatly appreciated.0 -
One more thing, is there anywhere you can follow the activities surrounding the ruling ?0

Apologies if this has been answered but this thread is getting quite long and I couldn't find it anywhere.
My BA flight Heathrow to Chicago was operated by AA (booked on BA website) and delayed by 9 hours.
My main question:
Do I put a claim in against BA or is it AA?
Secondary question:
I was also told by the AA agent at the airport that I could not check in until closer to the rescheduled flight time as I had bags to check in. I now read that I should have "checked in on time" in order to claim. Does this mean the revised flight time or the original flight time? In the case of being told not to check in by AA does this matter?
Thanks

AA.
You checked in for the delayed flight is what matters.
Why was the flight delayed?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I never found out what caused the delay. The AA staff claimed to not know other than the inbound flight was delayed.

Ask AA for the circumstances that lead to the flight delay.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Good morning,
I was wondering if someone would kindly advise me if we may have grounds for compensation for our recent flight from corfu last Friday...
Our flight was due to leave at 11.40, but we didn't leave until about 5pm local time, and then had an unscheduled stop in Milan.
Now, I know we cannot lodge a claim if the flight is delayed due to adverse weather conditions, which in all fairness was the original reason it was late - the incoming flight was diverted to Brindisi, Italy because of a storm. However, it landed there 10am local time, and then failed to get a slot to come across to Corfu until about 3pm (I pity the poor souls stuck on the aircraft all that time!).
Meanwhile, we had various re-scheduled take off times given on the board, which ranged from 1.30pm- 6.30pm. In hindsight we found this was due to our plane being given a slot from Brindissi air control, only to have it revoked again almost immediately!
Ours was an Easyjet flight, other planes coming in from Gatwick arrived and took off from Corfu airpirt successfully from 1pm onwards (at least one of these departed within minutes of our plane that morning!)
Would anyone be able to advise us if we may be eligible for compensation? Included in our party was our youngest daughter, who along with all passengers was offered a ham and cheese roll and bottle of water after 3 hours - we asked for 2 bottles of water for her instead and were refused, even though at 4 mths the water would have been handy to make up additional bottles of milk, the roll less so! We also had my Nan with us, who is hoping for a bit of compensation asap, as at 94 she can't afford to wait too long ;-)
Thank you for reading this :-)0 -

Think you've answered your own question there.0
