BA cancelled our flight in August (LHR-PMI) after we checked in online (approx 8 hrs before the flight was due to leave). They rebooked us onto a flight the next day but leaving from Birmingham and we had to get a taxi there leaving us £200 out of pocket. When I spoke to someone at BA on the phone he said that it was due to weather conditions but in the UK it was absolutely fine. I later found out that there had been thunderstorms across the med the day before we were originally due to fly and then knock on effects of crew/planes being in the wrong place. I've put the details into one of the online claim websites and it suggests we should be able to claim back €250 so presumably they think it does not fall within exceptional circumstances. What is the likelihood that BA will pay out?

Also, how long should I give BA to get back to me with their response? I submitted it nearly 2 weeks ago but I suspect they are busy with the hacking claims...
  • Norwegian Air. It is the airline you fly with. Put your flight details into euclaim and then bottonline and see what they say. They probably won't tell you until you start a small claims court action.
Thanks I tried EU claim they say, it was exceptional circumstances. Bott & Co say I have a claim and do I wish to proceed. Norwegian themselves advised Technical Issues. Confused ...

Knock on effects of weather usually aren't considered an EC.
As well as potential compensation for the delay/cancellation, you're also due a refund of the additional expenses to get to Birmingham from Heathrow.
Leave it as long as you want. 2-3 weeks is more than adequate, although many airlines will quote much longer for their benefit. 45, 56 days or longer are not uncommon.
You dictate the time by constant contact, otherwise you will just go to the bottom of the pile..

    Thanks JPears.
  • I have a letter from airline stating delay as 3hr 5min, but the flightright site shows it as 2hrs 55 min.
Will they be able to wriggle out of it?
  • and what if they don't turn down my claim but just never reply?
    (They haven't so far)
How many reminders do I need to send over what timescale before I take it as a refusal?

If the airline has admitted 3hrs 5mins in writing you have all the evidence you require, no matter what flightright say, it's a valid claim.

Have you claimed directly via the airline? or are you hinting at the fact that you may have claimed via flightright?

Who has not replied yet? the airline or flightright?

You need to clarify for an accurate reply.

  • Hello, thanks for reply.
I have claimed directly from the airline - Air Austral.
(And had an automated acknowledgement but no reply)
I just checked the flightright site as the delay was so close to the 3-hr limit

Air Austral don't appear to operate into the UK but their partner airlines do.

Which airline did you fly with? Was it a long haul or short haul flight? from and to where? Please post your full itinerary as it's impossible to tell from the little detail you have given.
