  • Hello, I have never posted here before so please excuse any silly mistakes.
I wanted to inquire about compensation for a cancelled flight as I think I got myself totally confused trying to read so many posts.
We are a party of 3 flying from Tel aviv to Luton at 20:25 on the 3rd of Sep.
The flight was repeatedly delayed by one hour till just before 23:00 when were told it was cancelled all together due to a medical emergency. The crew had to land in Rhodes and by the time they got back to Tel aviv they have exceeded their flying hours and weren't allowed to fly the plane back.
In all fairness, we were told to take a taxi (and claim the money back) and were sent to a hotel. We were provided with light dinner and breakfast. We were told the flight might be at 12:00 midday but then officially received a text to say 14:00. The flight was then delayed further (almost an hour and a half) because there was a problem with one of the passengers passport or something of that sort.
The operator was Easyjet (so I can't use the online claim tool.)
In the plane, they said because they didn't have a base in Tel aviv they couldn't restock on food. All they had was light snacks and few drinks that we had to PAY for!
I am not sure what sort of compensation I should claim for.
(The mileage is 2240 miles from Tel-aviv to Luton and I have to say that the tickets for the 3 of us were in the range of £1200, but losing the day was nearing a disaster because of missing commitments)
I would really be very grateful if you could guide me on what to do and on whether I am entitled to compensations other than what I have spent on the taxi and food. (As they might say the medical emergency is out of their control?)
    Many thanks in advance,

Sam74 - according to the NWNF sites you are due €600 per passenger for the delay. In addition you should be able to claim for the refreshments you bought at the airport if you have receipts.

    Hi,
My flight AY121 from Helsinki to Delhi on 31st July was delayed by 3 hours and 8 minutes. I am filling up a form to send by post as I believe I can't use resolver (as the flight was not to/ from UK).

Question: What is the amount I need to claim?
MSE advises €300. If you check this website, they advise €400:
    http://www.flightdelayrefunds.com/

    Kindly advise. Thanks in advance.

If it was over 4 hours it would be the full amount of 600 euros per passenger, however, if it falls between 3 and 4 hours it is 50% of that amount. So in your case it is 300 euros.
Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.
  • 400 Euro is for flights between 1500km and 3500km your flight was around 5,500km so as Tyzap said 300euro for being between 3&4 hours late.

I recently had a flight that was delayed by 2 hrs 55 minutes. They did everything they could to get it under that 3 hours, including making us board up the rear steps whilst passengers were still disembarking off the front steps.
  • If you had been over 3 hours when departing you would not have qualified for compensation. It's only when the doors open at your destination that decides if you are over 3 hours late that qualifies you for compensation.

I am trying to make a claim for a delayed flight from Vueling but can't find any contact details for them in the UK. I was advised on this forum to put it in writing and I have the letter ready to go.

I can find an address for their HQ in Barcelona, so is that where I would write to? Even if I send it by recorded delivery, or whatever is more suitable, I have a feeling they will just ignore it if I send a NBA to Spain.
There is no suitable number to call. The 0203 number gets me to a Spanish line which only gives me options of booking or changing a flight and I can't get anywhere with it. The other number (090) is 80p/minute so I'm not even going to try that one.
They have no email address that I can find and when I contacted the agent through whom we had booked the flight, even they don't have any other contact details for them.
If anyone has made a successful claim from Vueling, can you please let me know which contact details you used to do it?

Also unable to do it online as the query form just refuses to submit and they say to try later or do it through CS which takes me straight back to the form I have tried to submit many times.

Thank you so much Justice. I eventually got through on one of the numbers pretending that I was wanting to book another flight. Got through to someone in the US who put me through to someone in their customer services.
She gave me a booking reference number which was not on any of the paperwork I had. That one worked and I have been able to submit all of our claims.
Going on your advice I have my letter of NBA already written ready to send just in case they reject our claim.

Thank you once again for all your help. And JP and Vauban too.
