    Hi All,
Thought I would share my experience. My family were flying to Boston with Norweigen Air on 18th July , on the way to the airport I had a call offering 400 Euro pp compensation and hotel, travel and food expenses for the night if we volunteered to fly the next day instead. We accepted,

    I will update next week.

    Si

    Hi Si,

    Thats good advice from L-M.

Just to add tho, by offering you 400 euros each the airline are being very crafty and actually saving themselves 200 euros per passenger.

If they did not receive volunteers, such as yourselves, they would have probably been forced to pay 600 euros to each passenger. So, if your flight was cancelled on the original date, some other passengers would almost certainly been entitled to 600 euros each.

    Good luck.

I'd say Tyzap is being kind calling them crafty.
I'd call blatant deception by the airline. And then to add insult to injury by not paying up. Disgusting.

  • Help please with a question I'll put at the end, Here's the story.

Flybe cancelled a flight from BHX to DUS that my wife and I were booked on, we were then flying next day early onward to Sharm el Sheikh, they cancelled it 2 hours before departure, no help from Flybe as to getting us to any German airport that day as if not we would miss the once a week flight to Egypt, in the end the only flights I could book were from Manchester on Eurowings and Business costing us £800 + the train from Birmingham to Manchester, I have posted a review on Trustpilot and Trip Advisor also sending a copy to Flybe.

Flybe responded to me within an hour saying how sorry they were and offering the EU standard compensation, I will be putting in my claim via resolver later today as they did not mention anything about, Refund of ticket not used and the additional cost of getting to Dusseldorf, we will see how that goes but I'll be surprised if any more is offered to cover the extra costs.

On returning we also had a problem at Dusseldorf 3 weeks later, our return flight was due to leave on time but the earlier Flybe flight due out 3 hours before had not as the incoming flight the night before had been cancelled, what Flybe did was to re book all passengers on our flight onto the flight number of the earlier flight, I thought that was very strange but at least it was a flight back to Birmingham so I was just pleased however then the penny dropped, Flight cancellation costs ! Flybe in not cancelling the earlier flight did'nt have compensation claims.

Our flight when it apperaed that all passengers had got seats on the one plane was then shown as "Cancelled" with both flights combined into the one which was the earlier flight.

I hope that all makes sense so here's the question.

Can I make a claim against my original Flight which was cancelled ? we left Dusseldorf 30 min's late and arrived back in Birmingham 20 min's late ?

You may think thats wrong as to an extent so do I but I'm trying to recover the additional money we spent on getting to Dusseldorf which I know I wont get back from Flybe.

Flybe have in the last week again cancelled this early morning flight from DUS to BHX again because of the previous nights flight Outward was cancelled and after looking (nerd) on Flight Tracker they seem to be running many late and cancelled flights at the moment, after our experiences with Flybe not just the flights but the total lack of any help we have decided that Flybe is not an airline that we will be trusting again.

    Thanks for any help.
  • Two preliminary questions
    1. Were your outbound flights booked as one "through" journey, albeit with a break or did you book the two flights completely separately?
    2. Did Flybe suggest or offer rerouting?
  • I was flying to Oakland from LGW on Norwegian premium, the morning of the flight I was sent and SMS saying I had been downgraded to economy due to a different seat layout on the plane, I could fly and take a 75% refund or rearrange. I phoned up arranged economy exit seats and agreed to the 75% and completed the necessary online forms. I received updated receipts stating economy class etc.

Boarded the plane which was already delayed sat down in my economy seat, then there was technical issue with the plane, we were all offloaded. 20 minutes later new gate and different plane and was re-upgraded to premium as this plane was the original configuration. The flight arrived in Oakland over 3hrs late.

In my mind I accepted the downgrade 75%, which I spent in duty free! :) so I still think I am due this refund. And also 300 Euro's for the delay. They re-upgraded me at their choice I didn't select to be re-upgraded.

Its been over 5 weeks since I submitted my claim to norwegian and they seem to be dragging their heels, CAA state that a downgrade refund should be paid by the airline in 7 days.

    Thougts?

I suspect as you ultimately travelled in the class you had booked, you will not be classed as being downgraded on the flight

    Simonjh,

They gave you what you originally wanted and probably thought you would be pleased with that.

On the other hand, they didn't want to fly with an empty premium seat, plus, as you were back on the original aircraft, economy may have been fully booked.

There is no right and no wrong here imo, however you may be able to force a refund if you have the changes to economy in writing and feel strongly about it.

You should receive 300euros each for the delay (minus 50% as under 4 hrs)

    Good luck.

  • Thanks for the advice. What is a 7 day NBA?
  • Aha, notice before action. ...sent last Thurs .
  • My flight was cancelled, allegedly due to a bird strike. This excludes the airline from paying compensation. However, I feel this was an excuse -how can I check that there genuinely was a bird strike?
