    Hi

Is there anyone out there who can give me some advice on this please!!!
I have a halifax bank Account. I sent the first letter requesting my past 6 yrs statements in April 07 along with a cheque for £10 to cover the fee for this. Halifax cashed the cheque 03 May. To date I have not received these statements. I received a reply in June stating that this was in hand and have heard nothing since. I reported them to the Ombudsman for cashing the money and not responding within the 40 days timescale and sent Halifax a copy of the breach forms I filled in. I have received a letter from the Ombudsman to the effect that they are extremely busy, but will look into the matter as soon as they can. I have heard nothing from Halifax. Is there anything I can do to speed up getting the statements? Surely there is a law against a company taking money as they have done with the fee and request for statements within 40 days and not giving a service?? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi - Just send a polite letter to Halifax chasing them, give them 7 days to reply and advise that you WILL BE contacting the Ombudsman as they have cashed your cheque.

Im sure they will respond, possibly in about 8 or 9 days as they like to test how serious we are in claiming. If you can find your old statements in the future its much better. Im going to keep & file all my financial paperwork forever now, just in case something else comes to light that we can reclaim!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good luck - every bank i contacted paid us something (Over £7000 reclaimed in total):j

    Regards
  • i got mine after 7 weeks after complaining to obmudsman

    hang on in there!

I called them and advised they had been reported for not supplying my details as requested and paid for. Recieved my statements 4 days after that call.

New thread as the other one was getting too long.

To clarify, the 40 days is taken from when the bank is deemed to have received your letter and cheque and is 40 straight days and not 40 working days.

If you have had no reply from your bank regarding your SAR request within their 40 day deadline you can try sending this letter by Rex_Mundi to your bank.

You can also and indeed should report the bank to the Information Commission, however as they are very busy handling these complaints they are sending out the complaints to the bank in batches on a monthly basis.

If you bank with Lloyds and HSBC you can download your statements online. Best advice is to camp on the doorstep of your local branch and/or phone HO/Customer Services/local branch daily until they get sick of you.

As the above and try reporting them to the FO as well for not responding to your SAR request.
  • Thank you for that reply . I indeed will be sending the Clydesdale Bank the letter by Rex Mundi. I am getting no where with them at the moment, It's time they sit up and take notice of their customers
  • I recently sent in my first letter and the £10 payment to Barclays in April this year and within the alloted time recieved my £10 back and a letter to say they are going to supply me the information for free. I have now waited for 12 weeks now and not even a reply or any thing does any one know what i should do now or should i restart again.
  • You have given me a wealth of information. I have been having the same problem with the banks * now l'm going to use your letter for my template, maybe they will pull their fingers out! Thankyou very much.
