Bank: Barclays
Amount Reclaimed: £575.00
Amount they paid: £405.00
The story: Barclays would not accept liability but paid me £405.00 as a good will gesture. It took nearly 2 months for them to respond properly but I only sent one letter and I accepted because I was happy with the offer.
Now going to see if I can claim back charges from Barclaycard and Capital One credit card. I have had £100s of charges in the last 3 years but have paid off my balance. So I don't actually owe them any more money.
Has anyone ever done this before???0 -
Bank: LloydsTSB
Amount Reclaimed: less than £100, no interest claimed.
Amount they paid: full amount claimed + interest + moneyclaim fee £30.
The story:
Less than £100 charges, all from years ago when I slipped over the agreed O/D limit a few times. Followed the advice on Martin's site to the letter. Wrote asking for the charges back. Lloyds initially refused to pay. I offered to settle for 75%. No reply. I used moneyclaim website (for the first time) to start legal claim, £30 fee. Lloyds' solicitors wrote back a week later saying they would defend the claim (presumably so they can say I backed down) but the next day a letter came from the same people offering to settle in full without prejudice. Thanks, Martin

Bank: HSBC
Ammount Claimed: over £1700 (not including interest)
Ammount Won: over £1500
Started mid April. 1 letter and multiple follow up calls. at end of 8 weeks started threatening Financial Ombussman. Was told my offer letter had been sent, turned out it hadn't. Probably sitting on someones desk.
Ended up going to my branch where they printed a copy of the letter after being told by three people that it hadn't been scanned and this was not possible, spoke to a very nice lady in the Leeds complaints office who said she was sorry, the other staffers had been wrong and to just pop into my branch.
As I live in leeds she even suggested coming over to the office to deliver the reply in person to make sure it was dealt with!
Unfortunately couldn't do that due to work commitments so sent it registerd post.
Called today, money will be in start of next week.
Here's something interesting though: Called HSBC to ask why my offer was lower than what I'd claimed. At first I was told it was because they don't pay interest. As I hadn't claimed for interst I asked for a further explanation. The gentleman grudgingly explained that HSBC take off 15% as they beleive that's what they're due.
That's as close as I've heard HSBC admitting they only need 15% of the charges to cover costs?!?!?!?0 -

Amount they paid: £2151.28
The story
Abbey have dragged their feet on this one all the way. Only advice that can be given is to persevere. We followed the steps on this site.Got to the stage of a court date being set (28/08/07) Received letter today asking us to contact court to withdraw the claim. We will do this once the funds have cleared:rotfl: Top bloke Martin, and all members of this site who have contributed to this result.0 -
Bank:- Capital One
Reclaimed:- £89.04. No idea how much i was owed, as I closed this account down about 3 years ago, but I sent the standard letter asking for statements along with the £10 cheque; two weeks later I got an offer for this amount. I'm probably entitled to claim for about £200, but can't be arsed with all the messing about. £90 will do nicely.
This is the third successful claim I've had after taking Capital One for £16 (big wow...) and Natwest for £1100 (bigger wow); as always thanks to Martin and all on this site for the excellent help and info. To all those still claiming - keep going, and don't lose faith!0 -

Halifax
Amount Reclaimed:- £384
Amount Received:- £324!!!!!!!
Halifax reply to my first letter was text book in telling me that I should have had these charges imposed. Sent a reply to say not happy with their answer. Received another letter offering me half of what I had asked for without interest. There was an option on this letter that if I was still unhappy I could phone them. I did and within seconds I was offered every penny of my charges without interest!!!!! £324 :j Result!!!!!!!!! The whole process has taken about 5 weeks - Go for it!!

Bank - Barclays
Amount Reclaimed - £1025.00
Amount Received - £765.00
I sent a letter to Barclays in May 07 saying i wasnt happy with the charges and was expecting a reply within 14 day!......
they replied about 2 weeks later saying that it was being "investigated" and that they would try to get back to me within the 14 days (even tho two weeks had already passed....duh!)
i then received a letter a week later saying the investigation was still ongoing and that they would reply to me within 4 weeks - due to the depth of the investigation!!! whatever!
so i sent them a letter saying i was unhappy and threatened court action and that their deadline was the 6th July.
On the 7th July i was offered £765.00 - woop woop!
although this isnt the full amount it helps alot with moving out!
Thanks so much to Martin for the Step-by-Step guide, i am now in the process of helping a friend do the same with Lloyds TSB!
