Bank - Bank Of Scotland
Claimed - £4511.44
Accepted - £4511.44
This was just over £3500 in bank charges with the interest from the calculator starte dthe process in March was rejected at the limit of the timescales by the bank went straight to the ombudsman and within 5 weeks had an offer for the full amount was accepted by me right away just waiting on the payment to come through.
Would never have started this without Martin saying it was worth trying so thanks0 -
Bank: First Direct
Amount Reclaimed:£4589
Amount they paid:£4589 + £220 Costs +£1137 interest = £5946
The story: Started back in February and got a complete blank from the bank. They wrote and told me that their terms and conditions were fair etc etc. Filed via MCOL and they defended at the last minute. Transferred to my local court where the Judge allocated a full five minutes for the hearing. (Clearly they dont want too many gaps in their schedules and are pretty unconvinces by the Bank's defences).
Sent off my court bundle to the Court and FD's solicitors and heard absolutely nothing until about a week before the case when I got the full amount offered.
My advice..for what it's worth... is to make use of some of the great sites like this one and make sure that you are fully prepared for the case to go ahead. It is highly unlikely to, but knowing that you have done all you can reduces the stress of the silence that you will inevitably receive from the banks. Well done Martin!!!! You are a hero!!!0 -
Bank: Natwest
Amount claimed: £120 (over drawn charges, genuine mistakes caused by Direct Debit)
Amount refunded: £120
Paid as a 'goodwill' gesture, still do not admit they were unfair and took me 3 months and 4 letters to resolve.
May only be £120 but it's better in my pocket than theirs!0 -
Started proceedings two months ago got to the court stage, due to be heard on the 17th July received a letter yesterday, not accepting liability but due to high costs for Halifax if to defend would rather pay me out Ha Ha!!.
Total amount claimed £4494.00 Paid in full into my account today.
Starting on all my Credit cards now.
Big Big thank you Martin.0 -
Bank: Lloyds TSB
Amount Reclaimed: £1700
Amount they paid: £1700
The story: I went all the way! Except I couldn't take time of for the court date, so I sent in the bundles. Nervous my no appearance may hinder the case. I went off on holiday a few days later not hearing. When I returned I was ready to start chasing. But I had a letter from their solicitors saying the amount had been refunded! It felt like a long slog, 6 months, but it didn't affect my day to day life. It was definitely worth it, don't let that recent "win" put you off! Good luck!

Bank: Bank of Scotland
Amount Reclaimed:£4,813 (£5,401.48 with interest)
Amount they paid:£4,000
The story:
09/03/07: Letter sent requesting list of bank charges.
24/04/07: Letter sent requesting payment of charges (had some but not all statements).
27/04/07: Letter rec’d sorry to hear you are unhappy with the charges applied etc we are investigating your complain and will be get back to you in the next 4 weeks.
11/05/07: Court threat letter sent
19/05/07: Statements rec’d from BOS
25/05/07: Letter rec’d, sorry you have not yet had a full response to your concerns, we are investigating your complaint, you will receive a response from us asap, but certainly no later than 21/06/07.
26/06/07: Made phone call to BOS(08457 253519) informed that I have not yet rec’d a response. Was informed that a letter had been sent out to me dated 15/06/07 (which I hadn’t received).
29/06/07: Letter (dated 15/06/07) rec’d declining payment of charges.
02/07/06: Made phone call using number on letter (0151 2247575) and asked for my case to re-evaluated. Told would get response in a couple of days.
04/07/07: Letter received offering £2,432. Called the number on letter (01977 627362), spoke to Lindsay and after her informing me of my responsibility etc to manage my account I negotiated the offer up to £4,000.
06/07/07: Money in account.
I was delighted to accept the £4000 as it will help pay bills etc that are currently outstanding and it is money I thought I would never see again. The whole process from start to finish has taken 17 weeks and as I live in Scotland, going to Court wasn’t an option. My advise is to follow the format Martin has given, be patient and polite to the people on the phones at the bank, everyone I spoke to was very courteous and helpful. Lastly, huge thanks to Martin and everyone who contributes to these forums as the advise has be invaluable.

Bank: Hsbc
Amount claimed: £3,290
Amount paid: £3,170
It did take longer than I thought, and we had to go 'all the way' to small claims, BUT they eventually paid just after claim was started. The bank disputed one charge (wrongly) we had down but we were happy to accept their offer and get it all finished.
Big thanks Martin! :j
ps on-line small claims proceedure was easy to use, but had to ring up to end the claim (some long delays in waiting for phone to be answered!)0 -
i was starting to panic a bit when their solicitors decided to defend the mcol ( money cliam online ).
Since then, their Solicitors sent me a letter explaining basically that lloyds where not in the wrong and that they would be going ahead with their defence.
Would you beleive it on the sameday another letter from the same solicitors have agreed to pay all of my money back inc court costs of 220.00 which only cost me 110.00 which is just short of £4000.00 on the condition i do not tell anybody about this... yeah right!!!
I would urge anybody in the Hull area or wherever due to recent press coverage to just hang in their and don't let them scare you into backing out as i nearly did.:rotfl:
Good luck
Many thanks martin and moneysavingexpert.com for all your advise and guidance :money:0 -
