Bank Charges Success Stories II
Comments
-
Bank: Lloyds TSB PLC
Amount Reclaimed: £1736
Amount they paid: £1839 (inc court costs)
The story:
Followed Martin's complete process from requesting statements to taking to court and all the letters along the way. Took 5 months to get the money, received lots of 'we're going to defend' type letters from the bank but we carried on regardless and it proved to be worth all the hassle in the end!0 -
Royal Bank of Scotland
Claimed 3400
offered 3080
Ii got a letter from RBS this morning offering me 3080. I sent the first letter in April then the second threatening legal action in early May but having read the RBS thread I decided to wait to see what they would do. I phoned the customer relations dept about a month ago as I had had no acknowledgement of either of my letters. They said they had received my second letter not the first one and would take up to 8 weeks to respond giving me a date of 8th July as their deadline. So they took it right up to the wire.
I have just rung them to query the shortfall but have been told there is no room for negotiation, its a final offer and if I dont want to accept I can go to court (politely said by the way!) There were a couple of refunds on my statements which I just ignored when I was doing my calculations and I also went on to a royalties account for a while which would have incurred me charges which they would not refund anyway so to be honest it is probably a fair amount to settle for. I closed this account two years ago because of the way they had charged me and made a bad financial situation at the time a whole lot worse for me so I am pleased to have got some payback.
I claimed charges from the Halifax as well recently which were refunded three weeks ago for the full amount £860 - so I have done alright.
So I can pay off my credit cards with this little lot - maybe have a little left over for a holiday this summer.
I want to thank Martin Lewis for being such an inspiration and also to everyone who has contributed their stories on this site. I wouldnt have ever dreamed of seeing this money again without all the advice and gudance here. A huge thank you and well done to all of us for having the courage to go for it.0 -
Ok heres my story,
Lest december filled in forms for Robertson Holbrook to do 3 claims (natwest, hsbc and barclaycard) for me as I really didnt want to hassle myself and they said I would get all of the amount and they would only keep the interest (which I wasnt going to go for myself anyway). After 2/3 months all of my bank statement turned up at my house. Kept trying to call RH to find out what to do with them but could never get through to anyone and no-one would ever return my calls. Left a message with someone there for them to not bother with the natwest claim but carry on with the other 2. Had letter from barclaycard not long later offering full payment of £80. As I had the statements from Natwest thought I may as well do it myself. Sent off templates asking for 663 + interest. Had letter this week offering 663 which I accepted and money is in account today. Still havent heard from HSBC claim
Thank you so much for everyone involved in this wonderful site.

Despite being overdrawn we used the template letters and applied for our bank charges back .
With no agreement from or notice to, the Coop Bank have after 7 weeks credited our account with the amount of £3602.17.
A following letter stated they did not refund DEBIT INTEREST figures which in our case amounted to a figure of £1481.04.So from a total of £4448.53
we recieved £3602.17
Talk about win some, lose some in the same letter. :j
Just a point ....what is Debit Interest and why can't we claim them?
Thanks Martin0 -

I started my claim at the begining of May and stalled a bit in June cos of the Birmingham decision. When I saw that there were continuing sucesses I filed with MCOL on 21st June. Received acknowledgement of service dated 30.06.07 yesterday. They intended to defend. Today received 2 letters from solicitors, 1st advising that they were in the right and would defend my claim. 2nd, still setting out that they are right, but offering me full settlement. I am so relieved, I realy thought that I would have problems because I forgot to put the acc no on the MCOL form, nor did I submit my breakdown of charges (I was about to send these this morning but the Post Office was busy). I sent the acceptance off tonight by special delivery for guaranteed Monday delivery. Watch this space for news on how long it takes to get the money into my account. Thanks to all for support:T :T :T PS Claimed £30000

:T Bank: Halifax
Amount: £950 (claimed £1100)
£2835 (claimed £2870)
Didnt reach MCOL stage, Halifax coughed up after a reject letter and
then offer letter of 50% on both accounts. Telephoned the number on
the letter and haggled and was offered the above amounts.
Thanks to all on this site, consumer action group site and above all to
:money: . You are a superstar. Would never have got it back without your
advice on here and the templates. Thanks alot.
Good luck to everyone still claiming, keep going, you're almost there!

Hi all,
Just thought I'd post my success story...
I was in unauthorised overdraft of £360 with HSBC, and couldn't afford to pay it back at the time.
However, i wrote to re-claim bank charges, they first responded asking for a break down list of them all with descriptions... My total bank charges totalled to £415...
I sent this list back, and lo-and behold, 4 weeks later I got a response 'not in any way accepting liability' or something similar in effect, but agreeing to pay all charges back.
Just thought I'd let you all know, so anyone that is in debt with a bank, don't be scared to claim - it's actually helped me in the long run, by paying my overdraft off and leaving me with some leftover
Cya soon guys,
David x
