Amount Claimed: £1999 includes interest of £358
    Amount Received £1402

    Hi All,

I just wanted to post and let everyone here and everyone out there know that I stumbled onto this website by accident - got my statements, worked out my charges and then the interest with the Interest Calculator on this site (I wasn't even considering doing it as maths is not my forte but it was all done for me!).
I sent my first letter last Wednesday (27th June 2007) and received and accepted the offer of £1402 today, which the letter promises will be in my bank within the next 10 days!!! :j

All sorted within a week of my first letter - thank's Martin

    First Direct
    Claimed: £1,145 (£1,195 with interest)
    Offered : £1,145

OK first claim of 4 but this is the only one I have succeeded at so far!

First Direct - claimed £1,145 (£1,195 with interest) letter sent 18th June

Received letter on Sat (sent 27th June) offering £998 (inc. £25 accruing charges)

Called up today got "accruing charges" (which were incorrect anyway and they admitted that!) removed and said I wanted to discuss offer

Got told by general customer line "you have to write in to reject/amend an offer" I told them to put me through to the charges dept!

Spoke to a lovely lady who said she would get my file and call back in ten mins, once I had told her I would be happy with £1,100

Called back told me she had removed the £25 accruing charges, had diarised the closure of my account (which I have been trying to get done for ages!) and the offer they would be making is the full amount!

Sent out first class today should hopefully get tomorrow! Get in!

Thank you so much to everyone on MSE, your help and advice is invaluable!

Now just Abbey (£64 lol) and HSBC (£500) to respond!!! :money: :rotfl:
  • Thank you to all on this site who persuaded me to claim.

Wrote to First Direct on 4th June, received statements promptly & returned with my claim for £1440 + interest total £1919.34 on 22nd June. Received 1st offer of £1224 on 27th June, rejected offer in writing same day, received revised offer of £1440 today. First Direct aren't happy paying interest, I consider it was my fault for going overdrawn and not being as responsible as I should have been therefore I'm accepting the 2nd offer.
In summery wonderful all inside a month.

Now to tackle Capital One on 2 accounts & Barclaycard

    Thanks to all. dave
  • HI,
Just like to share this, after a success with First Direct last month I have claimed from Nationwide B.S.for some £2200.not so easy as F.D. as I had to take them to small claims court, which I did on line through 'Moneyclaim'.
They threatened to defend it and sent me their Solicitors defence but I carried on regardless and just before it went before the Judge they settled in full and paid all my costs!!!....so take heart and keep fighting.
P.S. They have now sent me a letter & pamphlet explaining good banking and a right good telling off, 'WITHOUT PREJUDICE' which means they except no blame, but the haven't closed my account !!...........VICTORY.. I FEEL.

Hope this gives you all hope.

  • Bank: HALIFAX
    Amount Reclaimed: £5222.00

    Amount they paid: £5222.00
The story: For anyone reading this it is worth the effort reclaiming. As much as i wanted to reclaim it took me a little while as i didn't think it would be possible. But to my surprise i was owed around £4800.00. All i did was rang the bank paid £5.00 the statements was with me within the week. I used the first template letter to ask for them back. The refused with a reply saying they was justified. I used the second template saying i will take it to court. within 2 weeks i was offered half my money. I rang to say i wouldn't accept anything but all of it and would go to court and also claim with interest. Still they wasn't interest until i said if it reached court i would also point out that due to all charges the snowball effect on my account meant i wasn't able to pay Direct Debits so was also charged £35.00 a time off various Companies. And if i hadn't had these Bank charges i would of been able to pay the Direct Debits so felt the Bank was in some way responsible. Almost immediately they agreed to refund the full amount. Result. I think someone should look in to this. At the very least these companies who also charge for failed direct debit payments should be made to pay back as £35.00 is not fair. Oh and if your wondering why i was repaid £5222.00 but only owed £4800. I made a mistake in my adding up but they paid the amount i was claiming. Looks like they don't check!
