  • BANK - HSBC
    AMOUNT CLAIMED - £1,673
    AMOUNT OFFERED - £1,394

I have recieved an offer off HSBC today. I just hope it all goes through ok? It took the threat of court action and about 4 months in total, but if the money ends up in my account, it would of been worth it.
I just wanted to post a VERY BIG THANK YOU to Marin Lewis!!! If it was'nt for the help and advice of his website I would not of even thought it was possible!
    YOU ARE THE DADDY!!!

    UPDATE FROM POST NUMBER 406

After accepting their solicitors 'ex gratia' payment, I looked at my online account today and low and behold, I now have almost an extra 1.5k in my grubby little mits :T

Funny thing is, the charges they put on my account were actually legitimate .. ie if I went overdrawn by £20, then they only charged me what it cost them, ie £20 and not £40 - £50 that some banks will. So their charges were in fact quite lawfull. All this goes to show is that the banks will pay out whatever because they are sh*t scared of going to court and revealing their costs.

If anyone is in any doubt about reclaiming bank charges, then DONT be ... I say "GO FOR IT". If I can do it, then anyone can.

Next on my list is Nationwide. Claiming £268 ...... might not seem much, but hey its my money and I want it back! They have till 6 July to file a defence..... will keep you posted :D

Once again, thanks to Martin :money: for making the public aware of this ..... you're a hero :D
  • Bank: First Direct
Amount Claimed: £2049.65 (incl £280.15 interest)
    Amount paid:£1449.00

I wrote asking for details of all my bank charges for the last 6 years. They sent out all 6 years statements within days.
I wrote and asked for repayment of them and within 2 days I received an offer of £1449 which excluded interest and charges I had previously claimed back. They stated that if I wanted more I would have to proceed to Court action.
I decided that I was happy with this amount as I preferred to have the money sooner rather than later.
It was paid into my account within a week.

From sending the first letter to receiving the funds into my account it took 26days.

Thank you very very much for this.

As an aside I see that companies are now advertising to reclaim bank charges on your behalf - for a fee of course. This is clearly not necessary. This is an easy, quick and supremely satisfying process!!!

    Thanks again.

    Claim for £710.00 charges only.
Letter requesting refund dated 17th April 2007
Letter before action dated 29th May 2007
Bank's offer letter of a full refund of charges dated 7th June 2007 received 16th June 2007.

No faxes, emails or phone calls as I have high blood pressure and don't need any more stress.

Used Martin's templates but our final paragraph of the letter before action reads:

"We look forward to a full response within 14 days as we will have waited courteously for 56 days by then, otherwise we will commence court proceedings to reclaim our money."
Money cleared into our account today 22nd June 2007

Thanks to Martin and all the MSE mods and members who have offered advice and encouragement. I'm chasing up 2 x HSBC and 1 x Lloyds TSB
claims for 3 different friends now I feel more confident.

Them - Nat West credit card
amount claimed £515.84 including mcol cost and interest
    amount received £515.84

Nothing I could say about these drips would be printable on this board.
But finally, after filing a claim, I got back what they owed me with interest.
The people they use to claw back any outstanding debts, however small, are big horrible stupid bullies.

Anyway, it's over now. They originally offered £170 or thereabouts but I figured they had treated me badly enough (it's a long story) and I filed with mcol instead. Three weeks later I have a cheque for the full amount plus interest and costs.

    Don't give up!!!!

  • Hi, This is my first time here but wanted to tell everyone about my success story
    Bank - Nationwide
Amount Claimed - £670, plus interest of £305 plus Court fee £80.
    Amount Received - £670

Amount received is acceptable, apart from the two brush off letters before i took it to court and the one letter after saying they are going to defend the whole amount i have had no communication with Nationwide, This amount was paid straight into my account with no warning which i had already emptied so if i hadnt checked it i wouldnt have known it was there! This was fairly straight forward using the advice from this site, as i didnt know anyone that had done this before it was nerve wracking to say the least and as money is tight i wasnt sure if i should go ahead but i am so glad i did, the proof is there! my advice to everyone is keep on! you will get results in the end! The whole process took just over 2 months from the date of my first letter!. Thank you martin your the best!!!

I am sooo happy! I sen my first letter requesting my charges from the Halifax on the 23rd March. Recieved rejection letter on the 23rd May and requested a re-evaluation on the 24th May. After numerous phone calls spoke to a guy called Barry who said my previous calls hadn't been logged and he would get an offer letter to me by the end of the week, well today there was no letter. I rang him again and he said it had been sent out on monday but told me what the letter said and asked me what i was willing to accept as I said this wasn't enough. I said all of them and of £2531 he said no problem. Now waiting up to 14 days for my money!!! Thanks to everyone on this site, you have kept me sane when I was disparing and kept me going! Now I am so close to being debt free and feel a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
