Halifax

Amount they paid £2500
Got to final pre-court letter and received a letter offering £1466, they had replied just outside the 14 day limit so I rang a very nice man and said I had already filed court papers (was about to but hadn't yet) so wasn't sure what to do within 5 mins he offered £2500! Which I accepted. Thank you for the template letters and to The Forum which gave me the courage - modern day Robin Hoods?
(just a few sentences, please include how far you went did you a. just write a letter, b. threaten to go to court or c. actually go to court)- Read the article

Bank: HALIFAX
Amount Reclaimed: 5489.43 INC INTEREST
Amount they paid: 4700.00
TOTAL CHARGES WERE £4810. PLUS INTEREST
SO IM ONLY DOWN £110 ON ALLCHARGES.
STILL VERY HAPPY
The story:
i FIRST WROTE TO THE HALIFAX END OF FEB 2007 I WAITED TILL THE FULL TIME SCALE ALLOWED TO THEM TO REPLY WITH MY CHARGES OVER THE LAST 6 YEARS.
I MADE THE CALL TO THEM TO WHICH THEY REPLIED THAT THE CHEQUE SENT TO THEM HAD ONLY BEEN CASHED 2 WEEKS EARLIER AND I HAD TO WAIT THE FULL TIME (MORE DELAYING TACKTICK BY THEM).
THEN I RECIECED A LETTER STATING THAT IT WAS ALL ABOVE BOARD AND ANY CLAIM HAS BEEN THROWN OUT (PUT IN MORE POLITER TERMS).
THEN I SENT THE NEXT LETTER DEMANDING MY £5489.43 BACK OR I WILL TAKE THEM TO COURT.
WITHIN 2 WEEKS I HAD RECIEVED A LETTER SAYING GOODWILL GESTURE (BLAH BLAH BLAH) THEY WILL PAY ME £2413.00. WHICH THEY HAD ALREADY PAID IN MY BANK. IF I DONT WANT THIS THEN SEND IT BACK AND CALL THE NUMBER AT THE TOP.
I THOUGHT OH DEAR IN MY BANK ALREADY THERE TRYING TO BUTTER ME UP WITH A DANGLY CARROT I WILL CALL FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING AS TOLD TO DO IN THE LETTER..
09:00 AM MADE FIRST CALL TO AN 01 NUMBER THEY GAVE ME (GREAT SAVING MONEY THERE ALSO)
GOT STRAIGHT THROUGH TO THE PERSON ON THE LETTER.
TOLD THEM IM NOT HAPPY AND WISH TO SEND THEM THE £2413.00 BACK TO WHICH SHE REPLIED WE ARE NOT PREPARED TO PAY THE INTEREST ON TOP BUT WHAT WOULD YOU BE PREPARED TO ACCEPT.
I SAID WELL IF NO INTEREST THEN ALL PREVIOUSE CHARGES UP TO THE DATE,
OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD I THOUGHT THE INTEREST WHEN I CALCULATED IT WAS ABOUT £700 SO I SAID £4700 AND YOU HAVE A DEAL AND STRAIGHT AWAY SHE SAID THATS FINE YOU DONT NEED TO PAY THE £2413 BACK WE WILL GIVE YOU THE £2287 WITHIN THE NEXT 14 DAYS DIRECT TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AND I WILL SEND YOU THE CONFORMATION LETTER..
"I THINK THAT MOST PEOPLE WOULD PROBABLY SETTLE FOR THE FIRST AMMOUNT BUT STICK WITH IT FOR A BIT AND SEE WHERE IT CAN LEAD YOU"
ONCE THE FIRST CASH IS IN YOUR BANK YOU HOLD THE ACES
SO JUNE 18TH ALL DONE DEAL.
BLIMEY IM OVER THE MOON WITH THIS WEBSITE :T
IM JUST WAITING TO GET THE FINAL PAYMENT AGREED
WHAT THIS WILL DO IS ALLOW ME TO GET OUT OF THE RUT THAT I AM IN AND START MY FINANCIAL LIFE OVER AGAIN
THANK YOU MARTIN0 -
I cant believe it, it actually did work for me!
Bank: NatWest
Amount Claimed: £4776 (plus interest
5912.29 not that we expected to get that)
Amount received £4740
Time Taken: 3 months (we were a bit slack)
How we did it?
I wrote asking for the list of charges and recived 6 years worth of bank statements March 30th 2001- March 30th 2007 i spent two days going through noting down all the charges and another two days getting them typed up into a table!
I wrote to the bank, gave them 28 days and heard nothing, i wrote again offering to accept "without prejudice" £4776 if they settled within 14 days
Today we got a letter back on the 14th day! Stating they were not admitting liability and stated the charges were fair etc but would offer £4740 as full and final settlement
We are accepting and hoping to have the money with a week (perfect timing to get new baby a pram - just found out we are expecting!)0 -
Halifax Bank

A very big thankyou to Martin Lewis.
Credited to my account today, 24 days after 'Acknowledgment of service'.
My advice to anyone thinking of making a claim is 'Do it now', follow the steps given and dont let up on the bank even when they try call the shots.
Waiting for my Visa statments now so i can do it all over again!0
