  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount reclaimed: £50
    Amount they paid: £80
Story: I just rang the Halifax hotline as advised by you, and not only did the lady repay the difference in the fee on my last mortgage of £60, but the one before of £20!! My last mortgage fee should have been £40 but they charged me £100 (and the fee charge was not indicated on my original contract).
    Thank you Martin.

  • After a frustrating time claiming £28 charge back for goint 34p overdrrawn due to a last payment being processed through Natwest, going into a branch and hitting a brick wall, phone and speaking to a brick wall, I wrote to the branch manager.

After 2 weeks I just got a phone call blah blah blah... gesture of goodwill, blah blah blah, yatter yatter court case...blah your a loyal customer with good record (this is where i beg to differ on bank loyalty)

The guy even hinted he disagreed with £28 charge for such a small amount but he claimed that he couldnt comment and the banks stance...

I got my branchs phone number (local number) and was told in future if i speak direct there discretion is likely to work in my favour!

-After to speaking to my dad, it turns out he knows the Asst. Manager through Rotary and I have given lifts to both the manager and asst. manager after a dinner party when they were very drunk! (OH and both of the family business' are run through that bank)

Hmm I wonder if that helped!

This is one student about to go spend £28 on happyhour beer and get very drunk!
Claimed back bank charges - Jan 08 (Despite Court case!) :money:

Really want to win a car :)

after tipping over my overdraft too often do to rubbish financial situation, i found i was getting no luck asking for refunds.

until the other day, when i walked in th bank.
the guy recognised me from facebook!!! and recognised the sortcode, as the same town as he come from... turns out we were in the same schooll...

he refunded all charges for that month AND inTEREST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    bonus.

its true: its who you know.

even though i didnt know him!!!!!!
    F*CK YOUR CREDITORS

i am settling all my debts by bartering the lowest Full & Final offers i can. And then paying them this after i have saved it. My debt is £18,000 i plan on paying no more the £7,000 back. MAXIMUM!!!!! the banks are all taking the p*ss the c*nts, so why can't we?
  • I've just come off the phone.

I had a courtesy call from the bank asking if all was well in my world. So I gave it to them straight - no!

When we were in difficulty last year they cut our overdraft, stopped our credit card although we had run the account well and made us take out a loan we didn't want. End result lots of bank charges.

Anyhoo, all better now since my long awaited pay rise appeared.

Back to the phone call .... twenty minutes later, we are promised a full refund - £500

    I didn't even have to ask :j:j:j:j
    de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar ;)
  • I'll add these which are from a while back:

    Halifax current account - £3,800
    Nationwide current account - £2,200
    Halifax Visa - £500
    RBoS Visa - £103
Sainsburys Visa - been offered £232, requesting £508
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • Out of Interest can anyone tell me if they had success claiming charges via HSBC Interent (i.e sending letters via online messages)?

I've logged a bank chages claim for £2490 via this method, and I've just sent a final letter using martins template saying if not were off to court....

there responses I've had back have been pretty generic so far (i.e there is a test case and we are awaiting the outcome...)

Im wondering about using the official complaints procedure on the HSBC website instead.
  • Bank: Ulster Bank Ltd. (business account)
    Amount Reclaimed: £3,486.10 (incl. £843.81 O/D interest)
    Amount Paid: £1,596.00

The story: I was claiming on behalf of my son over the six year period. It was not difficult since he already had all the statements. I do realise that with a business account, you have to expect some charges. Nevertheless, not knowing what they would and would not allow, on 22 October I claimed for every charge, including interest, that they had made over the period. I was particularly incensed to see that they had charged a fee of £70 for a £10,000 cash lodgment, (He had to lodge this in cash to pay an overdue bill, so as not to wait for a cheque to clear.) and I mentioned this specifically in the claim letter!! On 30 January they made an offer of £1,596, which he accepted, since it was approximately £300 more than he expected to get after deduction of account service charges etc. We are so grateful to Martin for his help and guidance on-line. This is money we thought was gone for good. I have now commenced claiming credit card charges - see separate message in that section.:T :j

    Bank: Natwest
Amount Reclaimed: £12 - not much but enough to me!
    Amount they paid: £12
The story: Had my first EVER charge for a "late payment" of credit card bill when I paid on time (albeit on a Saturday), in cash, in branch. Rang up ready for a fight with little bulletpoints listed on why I was contesting it and they refunded it straight away! Everyone I've spoken to who have had charges have said that the banks are usually quite quick to refund where people have made genuine mistakes!
