Bank Charges Success Stories II

Hi, I reclaimed £530 a couple of months ago thanks to the help provided by MSE. It cheered me up so much when I got the letter from Lloyds that I wrote a song about it! To see all these people cheerfully reporting that MSE has helped them get back money that their banks have stolen from them brings back the memory of that happy day for me :-)
Keep up the good work MSE!

I can't say which large bank I have been dealing with but having fought them for almost a year and having our court case put on hold I have received an increased offer in which the terms we, as a company, demanded.
What is strange is that this case runs into severel thousands of pounds and all of a sudden they want to settle more than 80% of the money we have sought. This is despite their last letter detailing every charge, what it was for and why they were not going to compensate us.
I seriously think they know they will lose the High Court action so they are willing to pay to keep their costs down. Result. I'll now do the same with my credit cards and personal bank accounts.0 -

Thank you so much for all the advice on reclaiming bank charges. I was able to reclaim £800. back from the TSB and my husband reclaimes £500. back so we are both very happy. We still bank with the TSB.0 -
lloyds tsb
they owed me £1500
They paid me £700
The cheque for £10 i sent them to ask for the statements bouncedso it took a little longer than it should, i had to send the letters a couple of times and i eventually sent them recorded..... well worth the effort tho.... i saw on this website that you should see any offer as a bonus so i didnt get greedy when they gave me just under half of what they owed :money:

Bank: Barclays
Amount claimed: £120
Amount paid £120
The story:
I'm often jogging in my lunch hour and one day, wearing my loudly-ticking heart rate monitor, I decided to use the last minutes of my lunch-break to go to Barclays and ask why, despite being 7 pounds overdraft on my account (with no overdraft facility I must say), they charged me 30 pounds per day for four consecutive days, making my overdraft 127 pounds!! After the personal banker saw my account had been "kept in good condition" for over six years, he blabbed something about "the fact I needed to be careful with my increasing debt" (!!!!) then he "made a gesture of goodwill" and refunded the charges. He also admitted he was scared of the thing ticking loudly on my wrist. I explained it's a tool I use for running but he insisted - with a serious face - that I needed to show it to him before refunding the charges. I did and he said goodbye to me with a relieved expression. I wasn't aware I unintentionally threatened a "bank charges jihad".0 -
BANK : NATWEST
AMOUNT REQUESTED : £4,306
AMOUNT RECLAIMED : £4,306
I had to go through the whole process and even paid £120 online to process my claim through court. After the online papers were served i was surprised to get a letter offering me the full amount without interest which i of course accepted. Im still getting letters from their solicitors saying that my claim has been put on hold obviously the bank hasnt let them know ive settled.0 -
Bank:Lloyds TSB
Amount Reclaimed: £21.00
Amount they paid: £21.00
My wife got charged £21.00 for being £5.85 overdrawn for 8 HOURS.
Went to bank for a face to face and refused to leave until the money was refunded. They backed down and refunded the money when we said we wanted an appointment with the senior area manager. Too much bother for a senoir manager for a lousy £21.00!:beer:0 -
Alliance & Leicester
Amount claimed:781.89
Amount Paid 700.00
I went to court on 27th november, to remove the stay, and quoted the Social Security Act 1992, Clause 187..stating that the banks must not take money given by the government as bank charges as this is provided to live off. Wragge & Co called me today, offering full settlement of £700 to shut the case..After umming and arring i accepted..Happy Xmas on the way!
Good Luck to all stillclaiming-DONT give up the fight0 -
HSBC
Amount charged £25
Amount reclaimed £25
No hassle, no questions asked, just a quick refund into the bank account of the young man who was with me.
Not a lot of money to some, but to this lad on Income Support, it's a lot.Mary

Bank: Smile. I recently racked up some £220 worth of charges (plus another £85 pending!) through negligence (mine, of course). Went over agreed overdraft limit due to debit interest by the massive amount of £4.35. This was in August. My attention was elsewhere and when I received a letter from them, I panicked and immediately put money in the account to clear all charges and thought it was solved. Forgot to check my statement last month and then this month, another big charge! So I phoned them today, apologised in advance if I sounded upset and emphasised I didn't hold the guy I was talking to responsible. Then I said it was outrageous to be charged so much for such a small mistake, stood my ground in the face of all questions and explanations, admitted my own culpability and then waited on the line for nearly 10 minutes whilst he spoke to a manager. Net result - all pending charges wiped, the recent charges wiped, and half the charges I paid refunded. Total refund/cancellation of £157 from £222 of charges. I am very happy!:j0
