Hello everyone, thought I'd share my success story. Started in May 07, used internet banking to calculate my charges and followed the instructions from this website. After my first letter I received a letter from the bank saying they were investigating the matter that I had raised and to be honest I expected that I wouldn't hear from them and that I'd have to do the chasing but around 20 days after receiving that letter, I received another one saying that my account would be credited within 14 days. I'm so happy. Thanks Martin.

    :j Get in .
    Hi all,
After being off work due to an accident I sat down and watched Martins programme about reclaiming Bank Charges . Short on money and Yes now live in Denmark but still have my account at Lloyds TSB decided to have a go at reclaiming .
Started with my 1st letter on 19th March this year by asking them for a copy of all my statements for the last 6 yrs which cost me £10 , added up all the charges that they had levied to my account for going overdrawn because of various reasons including sick pay going in 1 day late and bounced cheques. TOTAL £3691.29
Wrote to the bank asking them to refund them in full WITH 8% interest added ,the 1st letter reply from them was, that they are fair and will not refund anything . So off went the 2nd telling them that I would be prepared to go to court and send in the Ballifs if they would not do as I asked. 2nd reply was that they would investigate this and get back to me in 4 weeks . then after 4 weeks another arrived saying it would take more time .
On the 30th May a 3rd letter arrived saying that they paid into my account £750 as a goodwill payment and if I was not happy I should contact the Ombudsman Service. if I which I did . I wrote staight away to them enclosing all the copies of the Banks letters - Reply ,s - and Bank Statements .
After a short time the Ombudsman service wrote back saying it had been passed on to their investigation team and that they were writng to Lloyds TSB asking for information for their investigation .A few more weeks went by and on the 25th July I received a letter from them that Lloyds TSB were offering me a settlement of £3043.50p ontop of the £750 they had already paid out, all I had to do was sign the letter of acceptance ( Which with my wife and I did as it was a joint account ) and send it in which we did on the same day as receiving it REGISTERED MAIL .
They said it will take between 4 and 6 weeks for the money to be paid into our account . So from watching the TONIGHT TV PROGRAMME on the 23rd Feb 07 and starting the claim proccess on the 19th March 07 till the letter of settlement 25th July07 together with the 4 - 6 weeks of getting all and interest included back ,it took 21 to 23 weeks .
I honestly thought we would not have a hope in hells chance of getting anything back especially with the way our LUCK had always been but now thanks to Martins help and advise we are now going to Florida for 3 weeks next year for a very much needed family holiday . So PLEASE read up and do as I did CLAIM CLAIM CLAIM NOW and its a very big THANKYOU TO MARTIN for everything

    Good Luck to everyone

  • Claim Against : RBS Mastercard
    Amount - £390

Sent off combined letter requesting 6 years statements and threatening court action back in June for £340 incl interest. Received statements a couple of weeks later with a letter offering me a patheric £92, so I went straight to the MCOL process at the beginning of July. They acknowledged the claim and had until Monday 13th to defend it - and no surprises, as expected I received a cheque this morning sent special delivery for £390 incl interest and my £50 mcol. :T

    Dear All
I just wanted to put this posting on here to encourage EVERYONE to not give up on getting back those charges! After only 2 letters and less than 3 months, I have just received over 2 grand from BARCLAYS. Granted it wasnt the full amount, but then, I could have come away with nothing atall.....so KEEP PUSHING GUYS......You cant let these banks get away with what they have been doing for years, they dont have a leg to stand on! Amazingly, Barclays didnt ask me to leave, which I half expected, but I think on principle I will be looking else where to do my banking in due course. :money: :T  :j :j :rotfl:

    The story
I sent them first letter, they responded very quickly with all statements, without me having to pay the ten pounds either! I sent the second letter asking for the charges back, they said they would respond in 8 weeks. I emailed them twice. They sent me an offer 2 weeks ago, I accepted, chased it up yesterday, and my account was credited an hour later!!!!!! How cool is that.....SO CHUFFED TO HAVE BEATEN THE BANK!!!!!!
  • Claimed- £540 (Lloyds TSB)
    Awarded- £540

Threatened court action in March, This went absolutely nowhere, especially as I didn't want to go to court.

Decided to take the Ombudsman route in June. Very very fast!! The day before the 'test case' ruling recievced an offer which of course I accepted.

Received letter today from the ombudsman saying the bank should pay up within 6 weeks.

The help from the ombudsman and Martin Lewis was phenominal. I should now be able to pay off my credit card by the end of sept and start saving:j :money: :T :A

They challenged my claim, firstly by VERY official letters from their Customer Services department quoting their standard terms and conditions. Then, after I had instigated Court proceedings, by letters from a firm of Solicitors in Brighton</ST1:p, and then finally by appointing a Barrister to represent them at the Court hearing. He initially tried to intimidate me by saying he was going to get the case struck off due to inappropriate procedure. I challenged this and so then he tried to make out that my claim was erroneous as I had calculated the interest incorrectly. I proved this not to be the case. When he could see I was not going to back down on any of these points he then entered into negotiations and we agreed a settlement figure – exactly in line with what I was prepared to accept PLUS all Court costs. A good day out!! :rotfl:
  • :j RESULT!!!

I have been trying to claim back bank charges my brother has incurred over the years from 3 different banks/ credit cards.

About a month ago, MBNA offered for pay back £900 of the £2100 they owed him. This was not acceptable to him, so I wrote to them again offering to settle for £1500. They then credited his account with £900. I wrote to them again asking for the other £600 we had asked for and today they have told him that they are sending him a cheque as a goodwill gesture for £1340.

For a financial institution, their maths SUCK!!!

They have now given him £140 more than he originally asked for! Woo hoo!!!

I recieved a letter today informing me Lloyds TSB were going to refund me £485 in overdraft charges within ten days. I check my account and its there already!

I'm surprised as I thought they would wait for the test case result. I was also in limbo as I had threatened court action but was wary of taking that next big step.

I would like to thank the many people on this website who have unknowingly helped me as i've browsed the forums looking for advice. I would also like to thank Martin for championing this cause and providing a great guide to claiming.

I've just had a promotion and a significant payrise, so with this aswell I feel as if my debts are going to be a thing of the past. I'm extremely chuffed and it was worth the months of uncertainty for this feeling, I urge everyone to give reclaiming a go... i'll start by persuading my girlfriend!

Best wishes and keep up the excellent work.

    Martin
