Bank: One account, though dealt with RBS
Amount Reclaimed £1659
Amount they paid £1659
The story so far:
Sent the standard letters and made three phone calls.
First call made early July I was told I would get an offer through in mid July. Left it two weeks and rang back, then told by a different person this was wrong and they couldnt tell me when.
Rang again one week later and told to wait till August. Day later offer letter for the full amount turned up. Waiting for the cheque and moving on to the next account now.0 -
Bank: Lloyds TSB Select Account
Received: £355
Claimed: All monthly payments
Some months ago, whilst opening a savings account with Lloyds, it was noticed that a £7 fee was taken each month on my wife's account, who thought it was for an overdraft facility!! This was on the Select Account. After enquiring, it transpired that the £7 fee was for AA breakdown insurance & mobile phone insurance, but she had no recollection of these products, no leaflets or any information whatsoever. I wrote a letter of complaint and insisted that Lloyds provide an original, signed document as proof of product purchase.
After six weeks waiting and having received two letters stating they were investigating the matter, I phoned the Financial Ombudsman Service for help.
They sent a letter to Lloyds, and would you believe it, Lloyds phoned three days later to sort things out. During the conversation it came to light that the products were too old and that they would not have a signed document any more? So, no signature....repay all of the fees.:D
First they offered 12 months refund... which was refused and argued, finally a FULL refund was agreed. A letter arrived some days later stating their standard resonses of not our error etc. and that a refund of £355 in Select Account Fees, as a goodwill guesture, was due. The offer was accepted and the monies were in the bank three weeks later.:j
It certainly pays to complain.
I must give a hugh thanks to Martin Lewis's campaign to educate the consumer.:T
Hope you find this helpful

Bank - Nationwide
Amount Claimed 1622.00 including interesest
Amount Settled 1473.00 no interest paid
I started proceeding in April, usual responses, Sent Ombudsman form off only 3 weeks ago, received acknowledgement saying it may take up to six weeks. 1 week later Nationwide have offered a full refund of charges but with no interest. I am happy with that as well as the £1273 from Northern Rock I am quids in. The Financial Ombudsman are helpful, effiicient and much quicker than I expected. The letter said it may take up to 6 weeks for them to pay up once they receive my acceptance form. Absolutely delighted, really easy I urge everyone to claim.0 -
NatWest Bank
Amount claimed £1967 + £547 interest
Amount Awarded £1967
Sent off letter claiming charges plus interest in June, today got letter offering full amount less interest. I had to sign letter saying I agreed to accept in full and final settlement. Just waiting for the money to hit the account.
Anyone any idea how long that takes from their receipt of the response?
Thanks Martin :money: :T0 -
:j Success. A result with the Alliance & Leicester. After my initial letter claiming £354.48 back, they offered £70.00, which crossed in the post with me sending off the court forms. They acknowledged the court forms & came back with an offer for the full amount plus £50.00 court fee. I've signed the letter to say I accept. So just got to wait for the money to go into my bank account now. Sooo.. worth the nail biting!0

Bank : Halifax Plc
Amount Claimed : £321
Amount Refunded : £321
I sent my first letter to halifax which i downloaded from the bbc website under unfair bank charges, it gives the bank 14 days to respond or without further notice court action. Halifax replied within a week unwilling to refund the charges, so without further notice i contacted my local county court & submitted a claim. Within a week i received a letter from halifax offering me a full refund within 5 days and asking me to withdraw my court claim on receipt of the refund. I Was overjoyed, Brilliant!!
And the bank have not shut down my account as there was some mention of certain banks closing accounts after refunds.0 -
Lloyds TSB
Wrote one letter - got standard reply.
Wrote another - got no reply.
MCOL - they acknowledged
They said they would defend.
They wrote via SC&M saying they would defend.
They wrote via SC&M saying they are offering full amount without prejudice blah de blah.
Today £5219 arrived in my bank account.
Keep going people!0 -
I followed Martin's instructions to re-claim from the Bank of Scotland. They followed the rules and in due time refunded about a third of the amount I claimed into my account. I phoned the Financial Ombudsman, who sent me a very straightforward form which I returned with copies of my letters to the bank. With no further effort from me the Bank have now agreed to refund the balance of the charges. My advice is, don't go down the court route until you have tried the Ombudsman - quite apart from anything else - their service is free to customers , but if the Bank wants to challenge them, the banks have to pay!! Sweet!!0
