  • Bank Alliance and Leicester
    Claimed 2400
    Amount received 2310

Sent all relevant letters from your website right to the court letter, paid the court fee, went on holiday and returned to a cheque. Bank stated that as I didn't agree to their terms and conditions they would look into the running of my account. They said cheque of £90 to follow which I haven't had yet but I have chased it up. They haven't shut my account down yet! Amount was including all the interest for 6 years and the court fee. Thank you sooo much. Took about 3 months total.
  • Bank: Lloyds TSB
    Amount Reclaimed:£3676.77 including court charge
    Amount they paid:£3676.77
The story: Wrote 1st letter to bank on 14 Feb.
Bank replied within 2 weeks requesting more info (delaying tactics).
    Replied and waited.
More delaying tactic letters from bank.
Two months later no solution, so used HMCS Money Claim Online to commence proceedings.
    Bank then took notice!
Acknowledged Claim, BUT.......employed a firm of solicitors to put in a defence.
Received letter from solicitors denying charges were unfair and unlawfull, but attached was another letter saying that Lloyds TSB were prepared to settle the claim by paying full amount claimed. I WONDER WHY!!!!:D
    No nasty repercussions yet!
    Money received 31st May::j
    Thanks for your advice Martin.
  • just to say thank you very much for the great information you passed on regarding how to claim back unfair bank charges.
i hadn't been able to use my natwest account since last year due to what i believed where unfair charges that had left me 76pound overdrawen, however after following your guide and complaining twice( no answer the first time!!) they have now removed these. thanks again martin, your great.

    Bank: HSBC
    Amount Reclaimed:£277.50+£75.47 interest
    Amount they paid: £250
The story:26/2/07 asked for list of charges over last six years. Included £10 cheque as gesture of goodwill. Cheque returned uncashed with copies of statements! 10/4/07 wrote asking for repayment of default charges with interest. Trail went dead! 15/5/07 sent LBA giving 28 days to repay. 25/5/07 received letter saying without prejudice they will make a partial refund but only for business reasons to avoid all the forthcoming hassle etc. They don't/won't pay interest and one charge for £27.50 was just outside 6 years! Hadn't noticed. So they offered £250. To save further hassle of my own I accepted by signing a disclaimer that this was the end of the matter etc.
Thanks for all the information you provide on this site. Wouldn't have had confidence otherwise! Now ... Citibank are another matter entirely ..........
  • Bank Nationwide Building Society
    Amount requested £528.65
    Amount reclaimed £726.50

First wrote to the bank in February for my son in law and did not have all the bank statements so just requested amount that we new. Had a reply back to say they will investigate then second letter to say sorry but no refund, i contacted the Finacial Ombudsman and they were really helpfull. They contacted the bank on our behalf and at first they were told no refund but then we had a letter from the Financial Ombudsman saying they would investigate the charges and the next thing we had a letter saying they would pay back all charges which was more than we thought. They settled up staight away. What a great result

The story: It took only two letters requesting my money to be refunded, and they have came up with an acceptable offer. It would of been nice to hold out for more, but I will settle for this.
