I got to the stage of threatening legal action but had yet to file. Got back from working away this week to find a letter saying they are offering £350 as a settlement. I'm very happy:)

    Bank : LloydsTSB
    Amount claimed : NONE
Amount offered and agreed : £86.99

LloydsTSB have just made my day! I recieved a letter in the post the other day from them appologising at charging me 2 x overlimit fees @ £25 each back in 2001. They stated that because I went over my limit by less than £50, they are now happy to refund these charges as well as Interest over this period based @ 12.9%pa!

After checking my bank today, I recieved the £50 back with the interest, and totalled almost £90!!!

The beauty is..I didnt even ask for it!

    Hurraaah for TSB!!!

    Bank : HSBC
    Amount claimed : £1430.82
Amount offered and agreed : £1246.10

I started my efforts to reclaim my charges back in March! HSBC made me wait until i had filed a small claim, which they acknowledged and said they would be defending. No defence was entered and on the 27th day (today) i recieved the offer as above. Hoorah!!! :j

I am still waiting however for a second claim for a seperate HSBC account. Again tomorrow will be the 28th day awaiting their defence. Unlikely to recieve it now - thinking i will win that one by default. Ths second claim is for £6542.06!!!!!!!!!

Am now starting further claims with other financial institutions, if all goes well i should be at least £10,000 better off! Now thats worth having! :rotfl:

Thankyou to this site and its members for the advice and direction i have recieved!!!! :T

    :rotfl: :rotfl: Hi Guys
I originally claimed the RBS for £2983 on 4th April they were messing me about. But after threatening to take them court on the 3rd May I recieved a letter yesterday offering me £2850.I have sent my acceptance letter today.I was getting fed up but thanks to Martin & the team I hung in there.Although they did state in the letter that the charges are fair but as a goodwill gesture they would pay me out.So what they are saying is that they are unfair.

    Thanks for everything.

Anyone claiming unfair charges keep going!!!!

just wanted to let you know how i got on with the halifax and also a big thank you to martin and all those who have posted advice on here, i would not have been able to do this without you!
    Ok here goes:
phoned halifax for bank statments and received within 10 days without paying a charge. Sent first letter claiming £1106 and was told they had 8 wks to reply. Sent second letter and told the same. Waited the 8 weeks and received a letter saying they would not being doing anything about my complaint etc so i really did want to give up as couldnt afford the £120 to go to court. Someone told me to write to the ombudsmen so i had prepared the forms and thought i'll just ring the halifax and have another go. They said they could put it back through a complaint handler. I said dont bother i'll use the ombudsmen. The day after which was yesterday i received a letter and funds in my bank for £599.20 as a goodwill gesture. I wasnt sure what to do as once its in your account you dont want to lose it do you!!! So anyway plucked up the confidence to call them and discuss it. I was very polite and told the lady i was looking for £800 (which is the amount i had in my head from day dot) and she said yes and she would put the difference in my account asap!!! Woo hoo! I'm very pleased as i had run my account very poorly and think £800 isn't bad so just wanted to share it with everyone and tell you also not to give up!!!

    Halifax claimed £1106 Received £800

After being pushed to the absolute end, with the possiblity of going to court for real!, they offered a partial payout.

Amount requested with interest (over 3 accounts) - £1862.29

Amount offered and accepted - £1723.00 (This is the amount requested, less the interest)

Thanks to Martin and MSE I've beaten the bank. I just have to make sure it doesn't happen anymore!!

  • Abbey filed a defence to my claim of £2200 and days prior to the court case they called to offer 65% of the claim in full and final settlement. This I accepted.

Interestingly the defence was primarily down to an argument that I was expected to pay something when I exceeded the overdraft amount and not nothing at all.

Abbey had contended for many months that they would not pay but in the end I won. Thanks Martin !

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Bank: First Direct
    Claimed: £85
    Amount Paid £85

Small beer I know, but to ask on 4/6/07 and to have money credited to my account on 5/6/07 is pretty astonishing in my book.
I had been a maximum of £252.03 over my overdraft limit for a total of 4 days in 2 months, so I thought £85 pretty extortionate (+interest of course - which I reckon isn't)
So I asked in an online message to the bank and they responded the same day and the money appeared the next - FANTASTIC.

For anyone out there who is worrying about what they are getting in to (like I was starting to), please don't! I'm one of the most unorganised people i know when it comes to admin (!), but asked for £1009.62 from Lloyds back on 15th Feb, that included interest. This last week as the court date of 27 June was looming, getting my bundle ready was worrying me more and more but fantastic news! Got a letter today saying they would deposit the FULL amount into my account plus the court fee's. So the point of this post, firstly thanks to everyone who answered my queries along the way, it made the world of difference, and secondly, if you're doing this or thinking about doing for it, just keep going - the help is there if you get stuck and it will be worth it in the long run. I'm breathing a big sigh of relief and when thats done I'm off to buy a drink! Cheers!
