    Bank: Royal Bank of Scotland
    Amount claimed: £2623.55 (£1949.92 charges + £673.63 Interest)
    Amount paid: £1949.92

I sent the first template letter demanding my charges back on the 31st March 2007. I heard nothing so I sent the second template letter on 14th April 2007. I then got a response on the 24th April 2007 saying I hadn't included my sort code and that I should send the correct details and it would take upto 8 weeks to look into it. I resent the second template letter with full details on the 26th April and heard nothing more. Due to personal circumstances I couldn't afford to pay the court fee after 14 days, so I waited for payday on the 31st May. The morning of the 31st May I received an offer for £1949.92, which is my charges in full without interest. I accepted this offer and I am now awaiting my cheque :T . My advice to you all, go for it, stick to your deadlines and do not fall for their stalling tactics! :j
    Claimed: RBS Charges £1949.92 + £673.63 interest, Total £2623.55. A&L PPI £461.69 + £115.50, Total £577.19
Won: RBS £1949.92 :T (Settlement, no interest). A&L PPI £577.19!!!

  • Some good news with very little hassle from LloydsTSB. I used the template letter from the BBC Money Programme website

Which has a similar template letter as MSE.com this was sent with copies of my statements (printed from LTSB internet banking) with the charges highlighted. The total claim was £500

I had the usual response from LTSB which appears to be a standard letter that they send out. I then replied, basically just saying that I still felt that the charges were unjust and that I had hoped that the situation could have been resolved without the need for official legal proceedings and again gave LTSB 14 days in which to respond.

I had all but given up hope of avoiding legal proceedings when a letter from LTSB arrived at the weekend with a settlement figure of £731, which I'm accepting.

I've read lots of letters in forums about people having so much trouble in reclaiming charges but sometimes it's easy and things do work out.

So Keep trying and reclaim all those charges
  • Hello all, just to say that last time i posted i had taken my bank to court...and was quite nervous by the 'win' in the birmingham court.....they filed an acknowledgement of my claim, but did not let it get to the stage where they had to defend in court.

I received full payment of £2907 (which inlcudes court costs and interest) into my account last week. Result!!!

I bank with HBOS who settled although they did not "admit liability"

I used this site and penalty.charges.co.uk

Thanks all!! credit cards here i come!!

    Bank: SMILE
    Amount Reclaimed: £205.19
Amount they paid: £205 will be placed in my account within next 7 days
    The story:
I was lucky in that I already had access to all the statements I needed. Took some time and dissected what I believed I could claim and with Martins letter guides I happily posted my initial letter on 30th March 2007. I've not had time to follow the thing through properly but did receive 2 letters saying that my complaint had been received and they were working on it. I was going to nuckle down and proceed further this week but received the letter this morning saying they were going to refund £205 into my account within the next 7 days as a gesture of good will.

Do you guys reckon I should chase em for the 19p? LMAO

They've been slow but with little effort on my part I've got a result :money:

  • Bank: Smile
    Amount Reclaimed: £980
    Amount they paid: £1025
    The story:

I wrote a letter two or three months ago. A week later I got a letter acknowledging the letter - saying they were looking into it. A month or so later I got another letter saying they were still looking into it. Then there was that court case which someone lost, so I thought there wasn't much chance of getting anything. But this morning I checked my bank account and £1025 had been credited to it as a 'charge adjustment' and 'commission adjustment'. £45 more than I had asked for! Hooray!

Finally, smile have made me smile!

    Bank - HALIFAX
amount claimed £2496.31 including interest and court costs

    amount paid £2496.31

    YES!!!

requested statements early march. Waited a month. Got no responses to ANY of my letters so eventually started proceedings through MCOL in mid May. Halifax defended and today I got a letter saying it's not in their interests to go to court (well, no!) and they would be paying the full amount including interest and costs within the next five days. I am REJOICING. Halifax caused no end of anxiety and stress charging me for going 10p overdrawn when the account I have with them takes TEN days to clear a cheque.

Martin Lewis, I love you. Thank you. And thanks to everyone who posts all their info and knowledge on these boards.

    Bank Halifax
    Amount reclaimed £783.35
    Amount paid £934.55

The process began on 23rd March with first letter until today with a letter saying money would be paid into my account in the next 5 days :T

I did the two letters and included interest. Got to court stage, they acknowledged claim and in between sent me a letter to say charges were fair but made no mention of case at court, so i got a bit worried. But letter turned up today, paying charges, plus interest and court costs "without any admission of liability"

  • bank - Abbey
    Amount claimed £7300
    Amount received £4900

When I got my statements from Abbey I was horrified to learn that including interest I had been charged £7300! I wrote to them using the template on this site to ask for it back but they refused.
because the claim was for more than £5000 I had topay £250 to start court proceedings with On Line Money Claim. Abbey then replied stating their intention to defend the whole claim. I started to prepare my court papers and today they have written offering a n out of court settlement of £4900 which equates to 65% of the amoutn claimed. i did consider taking it the whole way but I need the cash and to be honest with the all the horror stories in the press lately I was concerned I might have to accept nothing, and put the £250 court fee down to experience. I am delighted!!
