    Bank: Bank of Scotland
    Amount Reclaimed: £282
    Amount they paid: £282
The story: after several letters and phonecalls I threatened to go to court. days later i was offered a full refund "as a geasture of goodwill" though they never accepted any liability.

    Bank: Alliance & Leicester
    Amount Reclaimed: £109
    Amount they paid: £109
The story: paid up in full after first letter (although i threatened to close all accounts after the initial phonecall due to the muppet at the other end) accepted no liability and claimed it was a "gesture of goodwill".

:T :T A BIG THANK YOU to Martin, HSBC made me an offer today 90% of my original charges, I am happy with that so I have taken the offer. Couldn't have done it without this site and all the forum. Got £1102.00 back. I have encouraged friends and family to pursue their charges.
  • Bank: Nationwide
    Amount Reclaimed: £3172.87
Amount they paid: £3172.87 + charges (Total £3292.87)
    The story:

Not actually my charges, helped a friend to reclaim them. Used Moneyclaim online, claim was acknowledged and defended, but charges were refunded directly from nationwide 28 days after the claim was acknowledged, a letter was received the following day (without an apology, naturally).

    Claimed : £3368 ( £ 3980 with interest )

    Recieved : £3150

Sent first letter requesting refund on 05/03/2007, recieved letter from bank on 16/03/2007, looking into it, due to financial constraint unable to persue through mcol so left second letter until I could afford to follow through on the threat of court, at this point realiswed it had been 7 weeks, so thought would give them the extra one before carrying on. On 08/05/2007 recieved offer of £2830.93, foned HSBC on 14/05/2007 and negotiate a settlement of £3150, letter recieved date 16/05/2007 with this offer, acceptance letter signed then fax'd and sent recorded delivery, monies credit as refund of charges on 01/06/2007... :j :T
  • Bank: Lloyds TSB
    Claim: £375 (excluding interest)
    Amount Paid: £375

The story: Followed Martin's advice and received standard responses from Lloyds. The second reply made me very angry - apparently I had never paid 'default charges' as the ones applied to my account were (and I quote) "for dealing with your request to go over your overdraft limit." Em, what? I never requested to go over my overdraft limit! Anyway I simply told them in writing that I would be prepared to accept the full amout without interest within 14 days, otherwise I would take court action and claim interest + costs. On Saturday morning I received an 'on this occasion' letter: success! Moral of the story - claim, claim claim and if necessary go all the way. Thanks Martin.
  • Bank: Nationwide
    Amount Reclaimed: £1005 (including interest)
Amount they paid: Full amount - TBC

Sent the 1st letter in late March 2007 and the bank refused to pay claiming it was in the small print. So I sent the 2nd letter following Martin's advice throughout. Having had no response to my second letter within the 10 days I had stipulated, I applied to go to court on 11th May (using the Moneyclaims website which was really easy - though I had to pay £120). The bank ackowledged proceedings and had until 11th June to decide but on Saturday 1st June I received a letter saying on this occasion they would pay the charges I had queried!!!

    :j :rotfl: :T

I just have one question: should I write back to the bank to confirm that I accept the offer and to reiterate the amount (including the court fees) as they have not actually put a figure in writing?

Thanks to Martin and the forums for all the support and advice.

    Bank: Lloyds TSB
Amount Reclaimed:£523.25 (including interest and court fees)
    Amount they paid: £523.25
The story: Got the usual letters from Lloyds saying the charges were for providing a service so they wouldn't refund them. I filed the claim at MCOL and after 2 weeks Lloyds had not responded so I requested a judgment by default. Judgment went against Lloyds and after a week or so the money appeared in my bank account.
    Thank you MSE :D
