    I've got it!!!!!

    Halifax/Bank of Scotland:

    Claimed £1647
    Received £1341

I'm so chuffed!! Thanks a million to Martin, Edinburghlass and all the great people on this forum who have helped me throughout the claiming process.:T

Having received the standard decline to my first letter, I sent off the 'refund or court' one (using the templates) 3 weeks ago. This simply wasn't aknowledged. Phoned the 0845 number yesterday and today a sum of £1341 wa deposited into my bank account. I'm not going to phone and attempt to raise that figure, as I was already claiming for 6 years instead of the 5 allowed in Scotland....and therefore had decided that I would accept anything over 1250.

Applied to reclaim £2,031:08 from HSBC in April. 2 weeks ago I received a cheque for the full amount. Obviously the letter was keen to point out that this was "without any admission of liability whatsoever" so I cashed the cheque riddled with guilt.

The story: Got as far as the threat to go to court letter before a settlement was offered. I took the advice " was it worth going all the way, or accept that i was in the wrong originally but did not deserve the excessive charges" i have recommended to all my collegues and friends.

:T thanks Martin:A keep up the good work for us little guys

(just a few sentences, please include how far you went did you a. just write a letter, b. threaten to go to court or c. actually go to court)

:j my bank put in to my account £303 as a means of goodwill gesture. i replied back saying i accept this as a part payment for my reclaimed bank charges. i then took out a moneyclaims online court order against them. they put in a defence against the claim. this gave them an extra 28 days to file a defence. surprise surprise i had a letter back a few weeks later 4 days before the court case saying they will pay me my bank charges plus interest plus court costs. all i can say is thank you to martin lewis for his help and support.
for anyone else claiming there bank charges bank do not give up the fight and eventualy you will win!!
p.s the bank in question is the halifax
  • Bank: HSBC
    Amount claimed: £550
    Amount paid £476

I basically got my charges with no interest. I'm happy with that :) Wrote one letter with all charges detailed and interest included (all broken down). Got a reply after 3 weeks saying they will look into it and make an offer within 8 weeks. After 8 weeks I got the offer letter without admission on thier part for the full amount without interest. I took it and got the money.

    Thanks ever so much Martin!

    Received £138.00:eek:

started the process in june sent the 1st letter asking for statements, sent cheque for £10.00 which they cashed, sent 2nd letter asking for default charges back got a letter back on 19th july saying that HSBC do NOT agree with OFTs investigation ,they believe their charges ar Fair and reasonable at £24.00  . but have decided to reduce the charges in future to £12.00.but these changes DO NOT affect charges that have already been applied:rolleyes: ,so i thought that was that i had failed in my request for my charges back, so kept on reading the letter, and got to the bit that said "as a goodwill payment they would credit my account with a 50%reduction of what i asked for which was £138.00":T ,so half a loaf is better than none as my mum would say, thanks martin :money: for your help:beer:

Received letter last week from Lloyds TSB solicitors in Brighton offering me full settlement plus interest (@ £1,800). I had a court date in August set, wrote back accepting their offer, money paid into my account in TWO days!! Feels great to have won! My advice to others is - keep going, you will all get there in the end! I started my process way back in January!
Oh, and thanks Martin for the inspiration and the means to fight the greedy banks!!
  • :T Yippee and cheers for this website. After following Martins advice literally to the letter we have finally been offered an acceptable offer from The Halifax over charges ecrued over the past six years. We used his templates and went after £1919 plus interest ,and as he advised the bank denied any responsibility the whole way through. We decided to go the FOS route before the court system and right up to this point they were dismissive. Then a letter came through offering us (as a good will gesture)£74 as full and final payment which they automatically put in our account with the option of phoning and asking them to remove it .Obviously we phoned and said we were after a figure much closer to the total of about £2200 which included interest. It was at this point the person on the other end actually became someone with authority at the bank and offered us about a grand . We declined and they came back with £1330 which was about 30% less the £1900. We decided to stick for 25% and by the end of the day we accepted £1440. We propbably could have kept on with the proceedings but i could almost hear Martin saying "they're offering you 75% of the charges, what are you waiting for, grab it and run!"The money will be changed to euros and we are having our holiday spending on The Halifax.
Just to say guys, that where ever you are along the road of reclaiming,STICK WITH IT,all their denial letters are bunk, eventually you will have the phone call from the person with the dosh. BEST OF LUCK
