1st in May 2007: Barclays Bank: Claimed 3k, offer of 3k straight away!
2nd TODAY: Halifax Bank PLC. Claimed 2.8k, got standard letter saying no as you were aware of 'charges/fees' so I called them and asked them to reconsider. The wrote again and offered 1.4k, I called again and said no as it's 50% of my claim and that my claim was without interest. I said I wanted 2.5k and he said ok!

    Sweet!

    Story

Started the process back in april, i waited to recive an offer rather than rush it to court. They offered 720, which is 720 more than i had at the start. i've now learnt the error of my money wasting ways!

  • Bank: Natwest Bank (Account previously closed)
Amount Reclaimed: £2175.00 (then added interest once got to court level)
    Amount they paid: £2149.00
The story: Got as far as opening an claim at the small claims court. Natwest ignored all correspondence after sending me bank statements. Once began claim they even submitted a defense via a law firm but still offered a settlement figure once a date for hearing was issued!

    Bank: First Direct Plc
    Amount Reclaimed: £1175.00
    Amount they paid: £975.00
The story: Got as far as threatening court action and received settlement figure immediately! Result!

It just shows, persistence is the key and the willingness to shell out £120 for court fees but I made it back plus mega interest!

Amount owed: Woolwich - £4700 Amount received £3200

My son and his partner had a whopping £4700 worth of charges. He was offered £3200 without threatening and legal action. They accepted it and they have already received it.

    Wonderful
The more I find out the less I know!
  • Bank: Nationwide
    Amount Claimed: 450.00
    Amount Offered: 375.00

Nationwide said no to my initial 3 letters, despite offering to accept a reduced settlement. Went to the FOS and eventually Nationwide have agreed to settle outside of the complaints process. I stopped using my Nationwide account so as soon as the money is in. I am closing the account on them! Started fresh with a new bank! So :p to Nationwide

  • Lloyds TYESB
    Ammount Reclaimed £2033.24
    Ammount They Paid £2033.24
    The Story (in short)

Started procedings just over a year ago, due to go to court next Friday (27/07/07) Bank paid in full today (19/07/07) Wouldn't have known if I hadn't checked my account tho', I have not received notification from the losers yet, oops I mean the bank.

Many Many thanks to all concerned with this site and for those of you still battling the modern day highway men (and women) stick at it, its worth it in the long run.

Yeehaw, I'm off to the pub for a celebratory sherbert

    Bank: NATWEST
Amount Claimed: £483.00 (plus interest £704.31)
    Amount Repaid: £483.00

This was my second claim against NatWest on an old closed account. They have previously repaid (£464.00) on my current account with them.

Again used my own variation of Martin's letters to which I got the usual reply
"...will deal with it within 7/8 weeks". Again did not issue Court Claim but waited. Sure enough after 7.5 weeks again got an full refund offer letter (without interest) which I have accepted.

I can't really "knock" Natwest as they were true to their letter and again before the 8 weeks were up they refunded charges without the need of raising a court claim! ( although I'm sure they could deal with it quicker!)

On the other hand .... CAPITAL ONE ARE A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW ON EARTH DID YOU MANAGE IT "SUGARSPICE?????????????

Have been trying for 3 months, again on an old closed account, but Crap One
are playing "ping -pong" with me between themselfs and Lowell Group who they have sold my account to. I only have 80% of my old Cap One statements on which I based my claim. (£491 + int. = £702 on a card with £200 limit and more charges on the statements I don't have). Letter back from they saying will pay difference between £12 & £20 thats £135 which they told Lowell Group (parasite debt collecters) to take of my account which is made up entirely of Penalty charges. I asked Cap One to send me the outsanding statements so that I can add the extra charges and issue a court claim. THEY SAY THEY WON'T & I MUST CONTACT LOWELL GROUP  LOWELL GROUP KEEP SENDING ME SILLY LETTERS THREATENING ME WITH BANKRUPCY FOR £259.63 IDIOTS! AND THEY WON'T SEND ME THESE STATEMENTS I REQUIRE. Their last letter to me says: " we do not intend to correspond with you further regarding this matter, unless you enter into an agreement with us for repayment of this debt" WHAT DEBT?!?!?!?

Success with NatWest (twice) and HSBC but getting nowhere fast with Crap One :confused::confused: But anyway thanks Martin :money:

    Bank: Lloyds TSB
    Amount Reclaimed: £1677.16 + MCOL FEE £120 + Allocation Fee £100
    Amount they paid: Nil

    The story:

sent all the letters, they said they were going to defend, the never turned up at poole county court, and a very very good humoured "District Judge Freeman" struck out the decence on the claimant in person and the defendant not attending,

    good so far

i received the judgement, but SCAM did not :confused:APPARENTLY  so i cut them some slack and faxed them a copy of mine and gave them a very polite extra 7 days, they went and i called back, they said they never got that one although i had the fax reciept, explained to the woman that ok it might be my fax machine so i will go to Lloyds TSB blandford and get them to fax it which they did and i got another fax reciept, called today to find out whats happening and they said they never got the one from lloyds tsb either at which point i told them to "poke it and stop mugging me off, im off down the court now to submit my warrant of execution and cut them off" was this the right thing to do, i have really been going over a year with this now because of my court date being bundled,

im really looking forward to sending in the baliffs as my mates dad is the head baliff in the town of my branch and hes game if i am and im going to get the media in on it too as he will tell me when he's going in,

    what do you think

any advice on where to go now ?

please pm me if you do

    Abbey National Plc
    Amount Claimed £2132
    Amount Won £2132

    Hi All
At least reached the end of the line and won. Started claiming back the charges in mid March 07. Followed Martin's guidelines to the tee and issued court proceedings (online) on 3 April. Received notice that Abbey were defending the claim and court date set for 9 August. Had to submit our defence and court bundle by the 3 July which we did, must admit this took quite a few hours and ended up with over 92 pages worth of evidence and paid another £100 but would strongly recommend that you stick with it and follow it through. It can be a bit complicated but the court bundle is a good help. Received a letter today from the Abbey advising that without liability and "without prejudice" they have settled the full amount including interest, additional interest from 3 April and court costs. We have one other claim ongoing with the Abbey which we had to submit the documents by the 16 July so will keep you all up to date with that. There were times when we felt like giving up as it seemed never ending but think that is just what the banks want you to do so hang on

    Halifax Plc
    Amount Claimed £1000
    Amount Won £1000

Went through the process as above in March, issued court proceedings but before acknowledgement of defence date Halifax wrote to settle in full. Money was in the account before the letter arrived.
