evenin’ folks!
just joined this wee site although I’ve been reading it for ages. & a fantastic place it is too for moral support.
suffice to say, thanks to following martins advice, templates etc I got a great deal of my money back.
sent my first letter in the beginning of april (£2726 inc interest)....got standard reply
sent my second letter a couple of weeks later. oh! I sent both letters directly to my bank manager....much to his annoyance....he left me a message on my phone explaining the way their system delt with such claims. personally I prefered him working for his wage.
as I had been reading these forums continually & for other personal reasons I decided to wait the 8 weeks & not activate the court proceedings.
it became clear I wasn’t going to hear anything. I tried in vain to phone the number on their standard reply. never got through. so I got their complaints number, phoned there & the guy was fantastic.
they have a person on site especially brought in to deal with these cases only. he passed my file to them & said I would hear a result in a couple of days. I must add I told them they were about miss the official deadline (40 days) for a reply & I was doing them a favour. he was completely supportive.
no reply in the next couple of days (they were using second class postage), so I phoned again, as the guy had told me. the woman was fantastic. apologised for me not having it yet & promised to send it again first class. she did....& a seperate letter wishing me happy birthday, which was a couple of days later.
I got an offer for £1916. not quite the £2726, but I weighed up the pros/cons & the money would help me out much more now. so I quite happily said yes. the money was in my account about a week later.
I highly recommend everyone claims. it’s up to yourself what way you tackle it.....going to court etc. but get your money back all the same.
it's a great thing you're doing/have done martin.....but also everyone else that contributes to this site.
as the late great freddie mercury would say "I thank you all", "cause WE are the champions!"0 -
First of all, thanks to edinburgh lass for again offering support and guidance regarding a shakey moment concerning a response relating to a claim against EGG!
Secondly to all those Scots out there, please, if you are having no luck with the bank's themselves and are like me a bit scared of going down the court route please, please, please contact the FOS, they along with this site have kept me sane and always hopeful I have just received notification from the FOS about a massive amount (to me anyway) that is going to be refunded |(£5K !! inc 8% interest) from Nationwide, :j :j who I have to say have been quite a nightmare to deal with, wrong numbers, not receiving mail, not logging telephone conversation etc , once I contacted the FOS (since May 07) they have been on the case and this is my second success story regarding them. So please take heed and try this option, they are getting bogged down but get in there quick.
Also a huge big thank you to martin, the forums and of course edinburgh lass again, the support this site offers when you are feeling pretty low is superb, keep it going, well done :money:

Amount Claimed: £399
Amount Offered: £399
Hi. I sent off copies of my statements with a letter asking for them to repay all the default charges which came to £399 on June 28 and yesterday I recieved a letter from them which said that they "do not agree that the charges are unfair but as a goodwill gesture and without admission of liability or error" they will be sending me the full amount claimed. Result.

Hi all! I put in a claim for about 2.5 grand (incl interest) on each of two accounts on 22nd May.
All pretty painless, sent two letters then decided to follow all your great advice:T (it's become a daily read to see how you're all doing!) and wait 8 weeks.
Sent a gentle nudging reminder via e-mail on internet banking on Friday last week (8 weeks up on 24th July) and got a reply on Sunday with an offer of just over £1700 for one of the accounts (no formal letter received yet) apparantly they are still looking into the other account even though both claims were sent at the same time......they've still got a few days left, but I'm really pleased with first offer.....time to buy some new sofa's!! Good luck everyone - it'll all work out in the end for us all I'm sure!

After a couple of months the Abbey offered me 65% of my claim. Wrote back and said I would accept this if they paid the Court costs as well. I then received notification that the matter had been sent to my local County Court. The next day papers arrived from the Court. A couple of days later a cheque arrived from the Abbey for 65% plus Court costs. I caved in too earliy, but am still delighted with what I received.0

We followed your advice and used your template letters and we found that Barclays had charged my partner over £1600 over the six years. She had been through a very difficult time financially and Barclays compounded the situation, some times charging twice for the same transaction. I sent the £10 cheque for the statements but they returned it saying that they had found it loose in the post, yeah right!
Then, t hey sent the second cheque back saying that the statements were free and that they were were dealing with my claim. It took some perseverance but we were finally offered £960 back, which we have accepted.:T:rotfl:

I was charged £50 by Nationwide for 1 cheque which bounced. Not enough to threaten court action but the Financial Ombudsman took on my complaint and I received a full refund ( although Nationwide accepted no liability or blame!)0
