Amount claimed £2795.00 initially and then went to small claims court added interest and fees totally £3455.00
    Amount Paid. £3466.00

Started claim back in April, only received one letter from LLoyds saying they were not paying. Registered claim with small claims and bank acknowledged claim within a week, then I received letter from their solicitors offering to pay up as a gesture of goodwill!!!!

Thank you so much for all help and advice and giving me the confidence to follow it through on your brilliant website. Lets hope this is the beginning of giving power to the people!
  • Hi,

I am a Natwest customer, firstly I sent the initial letter & cheque for 6 years statements which arrived as 2 separate envelopes? My statements were enclosed but also statements for somebody else (STRANGE & SCARY)

I managed to track this person down via the good old internet, voiced my concern & forwarded the statements to the right-full owner. This i found quite scary as i had the persons name, account number and sort code which in this day and age is more than enough to be very damaging. Has this happened to anyone else i wonder???

Anyway received statements, used the handy calculator, included interest and sent the appropriate letter for just under £1000.00.

A brief letter arrived swiftly from Natwest saying they would look into the matter, no dates or timescales on the letter for a response.

Next i set an alarm on my phone to chase in 6 weeks.

2 days before alarm day a letter arrived from Natwest explaining what the charges are for, and why they are on my account, and i thought here we go, turned the page and the paragraph at the top said "as a gesture of goodwill they will refund all the charges with interest straight into my account" RESULT. :money:

Many thanks to all at MSE & Martin Lewis.

Ah 1 small problem, I have an overdraft that will eat the amount, Am I still entitled to the money ?????
  • I have just had an offer from barclays. i were claiming £3353. well after two letters, some number crunching, and a 3 month wait the offer £2757.
i gave this some consideration. I worked out that all the charges i have incoured had worked out at £5.00 each. well if they had charged arround that ammount in the first place most would have just acepted that. well i have posted my acceptence and look forward to sleeping on what i am going to do with the money. that will be in the long overdue new bed paid for buy the bank. now that's just what dreams are made of arn't they. THANKS Martin.

    Barclays Bank
    Amount claimed £830
    Amount offered and accepted £530

I got as far as sending a letter asking for £830 which included interest.
I had two letters saying they were looking into it and then an offer if £530 although they accept no liability and disagree with my claim.
    I accepted.
Many thanks for all your help.

    Claimed: £3720
    Offer: £3820

I have just recd a letter from LTSBs Lawyers in Brighton offering me the above as a gesture. Thanks to Martin and the team for their practical and concise advice on every step.
I was getting abit worried as my case had been moved to my local court.
Sequence of events: April: 1st letter saying I want the money back. May: 2nd letter saying I want it back, I have calculated the last 6 years charges as £x and they have 14 days to respond. May : I got a standard reply that was a generic response letter. June: Online small claims court for £3600 fees plus £120 online fcosts. June: The bank acknowledged the claim allowing them another 14 days to respond. July: I recd a defence notice from the Solicitors and a note from the Online Court Website saying it was moving to my local court as the bank intended to defend the claim. This is when I started to worry. Two weeks later, an offer letter from Lloyds. Nice One. I would say things are getting a little tougher, do it now or the window may close!

    Bank: HSBC
    Amount Claimed: £2500
    Amount Recieved: £1750

Put in a claim for charges and interest. Got a response saying the complaints department would deal with it. 4 weeks went by and I was about to complain about the speed of their complaints department when their offer landed on the mat! Sent back acceptance of the offer and had the money paid in within 7 days. 6 years of statements made for interesting reading, especially the seemingly random amounts the bank charged for things.

    Top Work Fella!!

    Amount Reclaimed: £789
    Amount they paid: £789
    The story:

Followed the instructions on MSE to the letter. Case was referred to our local court (Skipton) a couple of weeks ago, no court date set. Last week we got 2 letters from the banks solicitor in the same delivery. One saying they are defending, the other offering the "goodwill gesture" of the full amount with interest and costs.

We are still pursuing 2 more claims from Barclays and will hopefully be posting these successes here soon.

At one point (when the "gesture" of approx 60% was offered), we almost backed down from taking this all the way. Had we been desperate for the funds it would still have been a good result, but, if you can afford stick it out, do it.

Finally - Thanks Martin.. this site has been invaluable.

Thanks for the advice and stories on this forum, they've been invaluable! I made my claim on the 22nd May, chased it up yesterday by email and received an email today saying an offer of the above amount is on its way.

    NatWest
    repaid £2095 (claimed £2400)
    First letter - 8th March 2007
Had a bit of hassle - NatWest said had posted offers in May and June (never received) after using email address (given in forum) finally got offer of whole amount (less the interest I had claimed)
Very pleased with result. Offer letter does state that if I claim again they will not pay and they may well close account.
Thanks Martin and all who gave me advice.
