i will not get any money at all except child tax credits and child benefit and housing benefit me and my partner (who will be at uni) will not recieve any jsa or income support or any other money to live off, how are we meant to better our lives if they wont let us go into education.
Child tax credits, child benefit, housing benefit, no council tax (if you're both students) course fully paid-for, free childcare - that's a very funny definition of "no money" to me, it sounds like hundreds of pounds a week!
You don't need a car to get to work - cycle, or sell the car and buy a moped, which will cost you far less.
Student loans from the Student Loan Company have nothing to do with credit ratings.
Student loans from banks do almost certainly take into account your credit rating....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Right so that is also on the 'Welfare Hit List' agenda, placed there by the public that see benefits and low income recipients as being people that don't deserve anything. Just give them a food parcel and a bottle of water every 3 days is all that they are fit for.
Cars are the preserve for those that work and earn a good salary.
The point is, it is simply not possible to live on state benefits and run a car. Whether the amount of money that "the law says you need to live on" should be increased to an amount sufficient to cover the cost of motoring is an interesting question: the fact is that anyone attempting to survive on benefit while running a car going to end up in deep trouble.0 -

It seems ridiculous to me that two people who want to work in a vital field may not be able to do so because the government is utterly disinterested in investing in the future of our society. In fact, blow 'it seems', it is ridiculous.
The government should be entirely disinterested. I think you mean it is uninterested, which is a different kettle of fish.
But the OP is looking at free education - he's said his course will be free. And he will be getting housing benefit, child benefit, no council tax, free childcare, child tax credits, an NHS bursery for his other half. That sounds like shedloads of cash and support, to me.
It does seem unreasonable for a student to expect to be able to run a car, though....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Many have their mum or dad 'front' the insurance policy using their age and experience as well as a spare NCB on an unused policy, naming the youngster as an 'occasional' driver.
We did this for both our daughters until they were 25 and able to enter the market as a new policyholder but having 8 years of driving experience.
Only if the parents are prepared to be fraudulent, obviously....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Nice catch :T I did indeed mean uninterested, but didn't realise the difference. I knew disinterested meant 'without a personal interest' but thought it meant uninterested as well and apparently most people writing definitions online think the same! One to remember.0 -
I realise you've found work and so theoretically your issue is resolved but for future reference should you need it - you are entitled to hb at the same rate as someone on benefits as you have a dependant, SFE pay 85% childcare grant, a mature students allowance, a parents learning allowance and then the standard loan. The grants and allowances you are entitled to as a parent/mature student returning to education are not paid back. The uni will also have an access to learning fund which you can apply to for an extra £1500 a year (minus final year) also not paid back and you will also be entitled to a bursary. Then there's child tax credits and child benefit on top. I've just finished university.
Whilst I appreciate you maybe struggling it is actually a lot of money. I was better off studying than working!
If you are really finding it hard student services will have financial advisors who will help make a budget for you to make the most of your spending.
Good luck with your course. It's hard studying with a family (I have 3 little ones) but is worth it in the end!0
