I see, tayforth , By any chance anyone can get upset with statement that Sun rises on east ? Phew , can do that then at least. accent from glasgo can be difficult to understand , specially for foreigner ? Whoops better keep my mouth shut , may offend Scottish , glaswegean , foreigners and surely will be told off. Yes its already happened a few times when you classed my posts as inappropriate and tell me (!) not to continue with them. You can do search or believe my.word , I am not going to do search for you, sorry.
I am bemused at how you can not see the statement about a nation using can word is far milder that your statement directed personally to me telling me what to do and whether my posts are right or not , its the epitome of rudness in my world and in many other's I am sure.
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

My statement to you was very mild indeed, if you read back. And justified.

As I said, feel free to tell me which posts of yours I quoted and chastised you for, and if I was in the wrong then I will apologise. You cannot accuse me of being unfair to you and not back it up with an example. Otherwise, you may withdraw your accusation.

    (Sorry, OP)

I actually now realised that this situation was my fault in many ways. I did not set up boundaries, I was shy to ask her to replace ice cream or bread or just to buy cheese for breakfast when it is over. She is not a stupid girl, she would have understood. We haven't seen each other for many years, we forgot what each of us like, and of course with time our personalities changed.
I am still angry with her about her comments about the state of my kitchen. Just for the record, the kitchen was in a mess because I spent 24/7 with her taking her to Oxford, Windsor ,etc...I;ll try to get courage to speak to her about it as well.

Why not (a) sling her out and (b) tell her she's not welcome back?

Easy. It's your house. You don't have to have people in it who upset you. She can go and find a hotel.

Did you use the words "make yourself at home"?

No, I didn't. But we were so close before, I guess she assumed this is the case without saying such words.

To be honest you shouldn't need to set up boundaries. If I was staying with a friend, I'd ask if I could have my own shelf in the fridge for my things OR ask if I could use things and then replace the things I've used. It's polite and common courtesy. If I'm even staying with my parents for the night I'll always ask if I can use something.

Tayforth , if you see nothing wrong with one person telling to other what he /she should or should not write then there is no point in further talking about it . What's the point in giving you more examples if you do not see yourself in the wrong in this one. Put your sward back and have a nice weekend

Op , all depends on your take on it. Even kitchen comment can be an inocuous "what a mess" one that she might well have made about your own kitchen the same. I known families where friends and relatives stayed for months and it was fine and there was no need for pretend smiles. I reckon it was just difficult layout where your husband does not like that woman plus you have not seen each other for a while plus different cultures and probably you not feeling that at ease with neither of them .
