Eastern Europeans can be incredibly rude with their comments , I remember mum.of my.friend coming to the house of another friends couple and saying how they should sort out exposed plumbing and plastering (they live in a state of prolonged diy house renovation
)
You can just chuck it to cultural differencies sometimesThe word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -
She sounds like a very immature teenager tbh.....how old is she? Eighteen going on spoiled brat of twelve?
If she's gone just shrug your shoulders and write it off to experience, but don't let her come back. If she's still there write down everything she's pinched out the fridge etc, add on the equivelent of two weeks bed and breakfast money and give it to her as a bill. You can tell her it was a joke after you get to see her face. Or not, as you so choose. It might make her cough up a few ££s towards a meal out at the end of her stay though.Val.0 -
That is indeed bad manners to take food without asking first, unless she had been told ok to help herself to anything she wanted. I don't think you're wrong to feel irritated by that. But the comments about you keeping a dirty kitchen, well what sort of friend says that :-(
Personally if it was me, I wouldn't have her to stay again to be honest, just outside meet up's if I wanted to keep her friendship.0 -
I think it's a tough one, and depends entirely on the culture of the person (people) both hosting and being invited. For example, I always, always ask my in laws if I can get something (even if they've told me I can) and I see them 1-2 a week. However, when I go to see my family in Spain (they're Spanish in case of confusion) which is maybe once a year, I don't even ask, it's just assumed. Admittedly, I do ensure to replenish before I go so they never lose out, but there's just never that feeling of having to ask, even though technically they are less close as family than my in laws. I'll mention if something's finished (actually I don't just mention, I mention and replenish) but I don't tend to ask for permission0

amalis, that is very rude of your friend, you are justified in feeling annoyed. She has taken advantage of your hospitality. And her comments about the state of your kitchen were downright unacceptable! :eek:Eastern Europeans can be incredibly rude with their comments , I remember mum.of my.friend coming to the house of another friends couple and saying how they should sort out exposed plumbing and plastering (they live in a state of prolonged diy house renovation

Please try to avoid generalising and stereotyping, it's not nice. Thanks.

I will provide everything and her needs are much bigger than mine I have to say
buy loads of fruit and healthy foods. rekon she'd leave ur food alone then and have to buy her own!0 -

? (Patiently ) if I said all eastern European were rude that would be generalization and stereotyping. I said they CAN BE , its a common knowledge there are certain cultural differences /idiosyncrasies to every nation , or you disagree just because it is something I said ? Please try to avoid passing any negative comments on my posts , its not very nice. Thank youThe word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. I wouldn't help myself like that at all, I wouldn't even think to look in someone else's freezer!
Although, if we have friends to stay, one of the first things I or my OH says is help yourself to anything so I wouldn't be annoyed if they did! IYSWIM.
It would be courteous of her to offer you something in return for you having her for two weeks. I wouldn't feel comfortable accepting all your kind hospitality whilst offering nothing.0 -

Anyone from any country can be rude. You were generalising and I called you out on it. It's not unreasonable for me to do so.
As you know very well from this thread, the OP is from Eastern Europe, so you no doubt offended them.
p.s. I can't recall passing any negative comments on your posts before. But I'm always willing to be corrected. If I did, then please do let me know which one(s).Life is a gift... and I intend to make the most of mine :A
