MSE News: BT Sport: is its 'free' offer any good?

and take more money from you in different ways, for example, BT's current annual line rental was £129, now gone up to £141. TalkTalk charge £114.
BT's Unlimited Infinity 1 package costs £23 per month + line rental. TalkTalk's equivalent, Fibre Medium costs £16.50 per month + line rental.
The difference in cost over 12 months doesn't make BT Sport 'free for 12 months' for BT internet customers looks so attractive.
You mean like the 18% increase in line rental Sky have recently imposed on their customers? Or the £5 increase for the HD Sky Sports content with the introduction of Entertainment Plus? Or the... Ah well, I'm going on.0 -
Here are the T's & C's for Conditional access to the BT Sports channels. And whats impressive about them is they are written in English, and not legal speak -

I have BT Broadband, and Freesat via a basic Sky Box ( and old one, no HD or Sky+ stuff).
Was originally SKY but I ceased that a few years back, and pulled the phne line out of the Sky Box - will that make any difference or do I need to re-connect it to get the BT sports deal?0 -

From what I can gather, you need a white Sky card and you have to give BT the viewing card number. I don't think you need a Sky subscription - that would defeat the objective of competing against Sky!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

It will work via your current set up provided you have an active 'Free to View' Sky card. And you don't need to reconnect your phone line.0 -
Can I just check this? If I sign up for BT Infinity package it says I can get Sports 1and 2. Is this Sky sports 1 and 2. I looked at BT site at what the sports options were and it lists Aviva Rugby games. As I read it, this is rugby union. Now OH is Rugby League and this is on Sky sports 1 and 2. Would we get rugby league with BT?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

Hi,
And no the above is not Sky Sports 1&2. In the free Sports package you will get BT Sport 1&2 and ESPN. If you want to add Sky Sports 1&2 to the above these cost £20 a month on BT.
Hope that helps.0 -
BT have now confirmed that people with BT Infinity and their own retail YouView box will have to subscribe to a BT TV package which start at £5/month, once the 'technical solution' (set-top box software upgrade) is in place:
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/43272Can I get BT Sport if I didn’t get my YouView box directly from BT?
If you bought your YouView box from a high street retailer and not directly from BT, then BT Sport is not currently available on your TV. We are working on a solution to bring BT Sport to you.
When BT Sport is available, you will need BT Infinity and a BT TV package from BT to watch it on YouView.
Remember that BT Sport is also available to watch for free online at btsport.com and via the BT Sport app on your smartphone or tablet for all BT broadband customers.0 -
I have an old Sky HD box after I cancelled my subscription 6 months ago. The box is no longer used although it still has the viewing card. If I signed up to BT infinity could I then access BT sports through the old Sky HD box? After my subscription ended I was still able to access the FTA HD channels so I presume the viewing card is still active?0

If you signed up to BT Infinity you could do either. Or sign up to BT (copper) broadband to get BT Sport on your old Sky box.0
