Tax credit renewal 2013

yay compliance called its been done today.
She will send me a letter with the outcome. She said it was correct from January 2013 onwards but out from April 2012 to Dec 2012 was incorrect estimate so she said my renewal will get processed with an overpayment. She doesnt handle overpayments so this will come from another team in the post telling me what i owe and how to pay back.
Just glad i will have it all finalised this week0 -

Interesting. Is she saying your estimate turned out to be wrong when compared to actual payments.
I would seek some advice if that is the case and appeal the overpayment providing you did the estimating correctly.

Hi Icequeen
Yes she asked why the payments differed from my actual claim. I said i estimated in the beginning as worked on the hourly rate as never used as much. Thats when i called to notify them of the new costs but didnt back date it. I called beginning of Jan to tell them what they were going forward.
She confirmed that going forward is correct well from Jan 2013 onwards.
She asked me if i agree that i owed some back i said yes i have been paid too much.
She said she didnt work out how we could pay it back that i will get a letter informing me from another team.
SO guess i gotta wait and see now what the closing letter says and my finalised renewal and new award for this year/.

SHould i continue to make the overpayments back whilst an appeal is ongoing.
I feel like i should just pay it back really because i know i was overpaid0 -

You may not have been overpaid. As I said in my previous posts, the tax credits legislation doesn't look at actual costs - it looks at estimated costs and if you estimated correctly in line with the legislation then even if it turns out wrong there shouldn't be an overpayment. TCO obviously don't take that view, but I think the legislation is clear. That is why it would need to go to appeal.
They wouldn't collect the overpayment whilst an appeal is going on, but it can take quite a long time.
Depends whether you want to challenge it or not I suppose. Some people are happy just to pay it back and get on with things.
If you were thinking of appealing, I would suggest you get some advice and an adviser to write the letter as it will need to explain the legislation.

I got my renewal in a white envelope and I called the day I received it to renew 15th May. I was told to call back on the 26th June if I hadn't heard anything. I called last week and I was told I was given the wrong date and to call back on the 10th July if nothing had been processed the woman said it would be passed to a manager. I don't understand why its taking so long as I had additional checks down prior to my renewal being received and I was told everything is okay. I also reported a change in my childcare and I was told this would be processed at the end of May the woman I spoke to last week said that hadn't been processed either and that I will have been overpaid. Hopefully I will get some answers this week but I'm not holding my breath!0

My tax credits went into the bank this morning as scheduled but it was a higher amount than usual, not much but still more. When I got home, there were 2 letters from HMRC. One finalising last years and one for this years tax credits.
The difference between what they have paid me since April and what I should have been getting has gone towards reducing my overpayment that is STILL being paid back from 2003..........
Has to be one of the longest overpayment repayments ever and all because they got it wrong, not once but twice. Anyway the upshot is I have finally got my renewal, total time from ringing up, 5 weeks and 6 days.
It is a relief to know that it has all been done but how it can take so long, I still don't understand. I hope everyone else who is waiting and has been waiting, gets theirs done asap.0 -
Hubby got his P60 at a reasonable time this year so I actually managed to renew today instead of needing to make the 300 odd attempts I made last year - no exaggeration! (Claim pack in a white envelope, no child care costs). I was told not to call before 20th August if I haven't heard anything. I haven't made any changes so hopefully it will be a straight forward.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

Hi can anyone help, i renewed yesterday earned more than i estimated so told them actual figures, told it will take 6 weeks is that normal or do i have to be ready for some checks?
i do not get child care. Just wondered if 6 weeks is the norm
many thanks xxx0 -
Why would your childcare change so drastically on a week to week basis?
Nurseries don't allow it and I've never seen a childminder that allows it either, simply because childminders will normally tie you into a contract, charging x amount whether you use it or not. They would also need to know how many children they are looking after as they are only allowed to look after x amount on a daily basis.
You realise that not everyone works the traditional 9-5 role? What you said is loopy. Many nurseries and child-minders are happy to have some flexibility. My nursery likes to know two weeks in advance, though we have occasionally extended their hours on the day when we have had unexpected things occur.
Not every nursery and child-minder is over-prescribed.
P.S) I don't get tax credits.0
