What if I miss the two weeks that are 220 a week so 440 total. Because 38 weeks a year now is zero but 14 weeks a year is 220 a week
Sorry if I sound silly I know I've been overpaid for last year I just want to get it right thus year

But you don't know you are going to be off and miss two weeks do you. That's the point of an estimate.

    Your estimate is 14 weeks x 220= £3080 /52 = £59 a week

If you estimate that and then later realise that you only need 12 weeks because you book holiday then it becomes 12 weeks x 220 = 2640/52. £50 a week. But the change is less than £10 a week so you don't need to report it.

That doesn't mean compliance won't change it next year, but generally that is because HMRC staff seem to believe that it is actual costs rather than estimates.

Edited to add: it is a rolling 52 week period, not a tax year. So technically each week you should re-do your 52 week average and let HMRC know if it is more than £10 different but in practice few people do that.

Why would your childcare change so drastically on a week to week basis?
What kind of childcare provider have you got because I have never come across one that allows you to pick and choose on a week to week basis?
Nurseries don't allow it and I've never seen a childminder that allows it either, simply because childminders will normally tie you into a contract, charging x amount whether you use it or not. They would also need to know how many children they are looking after as they are only allowed to look after x amount on a daily basis.

I have used several childminders and all have used the same protocol. Full pay for expected days/hours whether child attends or not and half pay for holidays. The problem comes when the childminder takes unexpected leave or is sick and then takes no pay. Or if you suddenly get your hours cut and have to drop a day at the childminders, or custody arrangements change. Most contracts stipulate that you can change days/hours as long as you give 4 weeks notice x
  • That's for full time nursery care.
    Mine is not like that.

It was for term time but is not like that going forward. You book in advance for what you like to use.

Hi Georgia's dragon I did the same as you I estimated over 52 weeks as I never know if I'm taking holiday or not. The reg nursery my boy goes does not charge you the holiday period you take if you give 4 weeks notice.

So when compliance Did my checks they did not take this into consideration, so I have hd to send all info back in with a covering letter from the nursery provider. So just waiting for this to be re looked at. But not holding my breath.
  • If they ask for mine back I will appeal.
I am happy to pay back what I didn't use!

Chased again still not looked at they on claims that thy received info back 10 days before mine.

Will report back when I hear!
  • Hi All,

My previous 2 years of claiming tax credits have gone through in 2 to 3 weeks with no problems whatsoever. The same can not be said this year.

Had tax credits renewal a month late. After many attempts to ring, and after the forms finally arrived, I managed to fill them in and send them back on the 29th May 13. I rang this morning as I have not had anything back and time is getting on, and yes we will have a reduction this year as hubby changed his job and had a pay rise, yet in that time he took another job within the same company yet taken a 5 grand pay cut but he is working from home more and that happened the end of April 2013. So I will have to do this slowly as I know from previous experience, government personnel can not handle any information overloads and will mess it up along the way, so little steps.

So get last years figures out of the way first. Then in another couple of weeks ring them back and tell them again we will be 5 grand reduction on income for the foreseeable future.

This morning I was initially greeted by an inhuman (what's new) then told I was not to ring back until the 24th July 2013? In this time I will be owing them? Why should I have to repay money back due to their incompetence?

Anyway I rang a different number 2nd time round and spoke to Ryan (this morning). It turns out they received my form 13 days after I sent them? And I was told it will take 6 to 8 weeks for them to sort the claim out. Yet in this time if, (which I prolly do) will be owing them about £100 a week? So by the time they sort all this out from April I could land up with a bill for over a £1000. And that's my fault?

Needless to say I fuming yet not surprised at the incompetence. As I have been told via a friend in the know... "they are having a few "issues" at the moment - with RTI - its not going smoothly - that's the thingies they have started which gets Real Time Information from employers".

So there you have it. They change their systems we have to put up with the fall out and more delays.

What I don't understand is why fix something that isn't broken. The old system worked quicker?
  • I agree!

Mine has taken 10 weeks so far meanwhile i may be buildig up a new overpayment.

I know there is one for last year anyway. so why do complaince review at renewal time why not do my renewal first 10 weeks ago then do the review after or before!

Ive never had a problem before its normally 2-3 weeks.

If you received your renewal pack in May, i dont understand how it was late? The deadline is 31/07/13 and they are sent out from April to end of June, so getting it in May is on time...

I am guessing you have had trouble with your TC in the past for you to have such little faith in the Advisors abilities to take info from you. But on the other hand, the main reason for Overpayments appears to stem from people not checking their award notices. If an advisor does make an error on your claim then its easy to understand your frustration, but at the same timeif you fail to inform of the error when you are sent details of the claim then you are also at fault for the Overpayment right?

Well it will be 6 weeks for me on Tuesday next week, which is the date they told me not to ring up before. My next payment is due on Monday, so I hope it will still be as expected. I am sure it will but it is still a worry when you don't know what is going on.

I will be ringing up on Tuesday but no doubt will not get anywhere with it, hopefully though they might be able to tell me whether or not I am going to be sent the compliance letter.
