    Hi,
I had my final tax credits decision for 12/13 and my 13/14 award letters today and it has come back with a £0.00 entitlement and we owe them £290.17
my husband and I earned jointly £33,857 we have been getting £24 a week and now we will get nothing, we have 2 children and no childcare costs.
I thought that the limit was more than £33000? although I don't really understand tax credits no matter how much I read up on it.
can anyone tell me the actual earnings threshold for working couple with 2 children, and no childcare please?
    Thank you
    Emma :)

    You wont go to jail.
If you know of any reason why there may be an overpayment then you may have to pay it back. I am expecting an overpayment as mine is going through complaince. I have over estimated my childcare

Just so everyone knows a timescale for checks.

    I renewed 29th April
    Received provisonal award 4th May
Chased 28th May, told letter issued on 16th May for checks on childcare
30th May chased where letter was and was told they get sent in two week batches and letter will come soon.
11th June letter finally received asking for childcare evidence for 12 months
20th June they received my paperwork and scanned on to system
2nd July Chased compliance team told they are working on cases from 10th June. Mine another week or so away.

Will know of overpayment amount by 24th July.

I am aware overpayments can be paid back 25% of your monthly award.

    Thanks hope this helps anyone

How can you over-estimate childcare? You shouldn't be estimating it at all - the costs you supply should be the costs you are actually paying, and if your costs change you should report the change when it happens.

Husband has just spoken to an extremely rude woman at tax credits explaining the situation that we are expecting a call back today and she said to him well that's not going to happen is it, you will just have to wait! How unprofessional is that! So my husband asked to make a formal complaint, she then gave him the number to do this, spoke to the gentle ment at complaints who said his son is going through the exact same problem and he has put a complaint in himself! But we were basically told tough we will just have to wait until the renewal has been processed and we won't be hearing anything from them! Cannot believe how rude and unprofessional these people are! So don't have a clue now how long it will take x

For a start there isn't a telephone number number to make a complaint, so I have no idea what no. would have been phoned or who he would have spoke to.

Just reading that and the Complaint Handler in HMRC also has a complaint going through :rotfl:

Actually my changes from week to week and some weeks is 220 some zero and some 50£ but over the 12 months didn't quite work out to what is was estimates at so how can I report a Change immediately.

If that is the guidance that helpline advisers are given then it is wrong.

Check the legislation. Nothing to do with actual payments. Regulation 14 and 15 WTC EMR regs.

If you have variable costs you use the last 52 weeks averaged OR an estimate going forward 52 weeks when you claim.

For changes if you have variable costs you look forward and estimate 52 weeks.

No wonder compliance get it wrong if staff are trained to think it is based on actual costs and any changes should be reported immediately (some need to be but not if it is already averaged)

Why would your childcare change so drastically on a week to week basis?
What kind of childcare provider have you got because I have never come across one that allows you to pick and choose on a week to week basis?
Nurseries don't allow it and I've never seen a childminder that allows it either, simply because childminders will normally tie you into a contract, charging x amount whether you use it or not. They would also need to know how many children they are looking after as they are only allowed to look after x amount on a daily basis.

Hello I rang the unhelpful line and was told it wss sent out on the 26th also!! and that I should allow 14 days for it to reach me!! Royal mail can get things delivered in a matter of hours...why does it take 2 weeks for the renewal packs!! shambles is what it is....I will be ringing them back next week if its still not arrived as they need to extend by deadline! there is no way it will be processed by the end of July!! very cross!
  • It's an ofsted registered nursery where my son went term time and where my daughter and son go for school holidays only. The occasional after school collection and when my son started school mornings only September they did the wrap around care so I based it on last years actual and a good guess what this year would be. In fact I rang them January to change my estimate when I realised this year would be less.

I did use a sports club for two weeks Easter which I now know I can't claim for there's an overpayment of 400 straight away.

So my fees are variable and if anyone can advised of a better way of estimating please do as I don't want to be in te same position next April
