It's quite bonkers ;) I'm not currently ill so by rights I think they should abolish the NHS :p why should my tax subsidise other people's illnesses? Or at least make it more poundshop than waitrose ;) and no one to be accountable for mistakes...

    <this is of course ridiculous>

Oh please, what are you talking about. Its quite simple really, there's no money in the coffers, so why would you spend money on supplying a gold standard service, when its quite simply a case of cutting your cloth according to the countries means........and it obviously follows that the service is still run as efficiently as possible on the money available.....which is exactly what Waitrose and Poundland do.......they just offer different levels of service based on the amount of money available to them.

Hi, Been following this thread as I was worried about my renewal, didnt get my pack until start of June. However renewed on phone on 16th june, got letter finalising last year and renewing this year on 26th June. My husband is s/e and we have high childcare, £130/wk, but been claiming for a few years so maybe just lucky!

Has anyone who has childcare on their claim had a straightforward renewal i.e. no compliance letter and straightforward renewal? Just wondered if they are checking 100% of childcare people at renewal or staggering it.....

Finally received my renewal pack on 28/06 &, it has a date of 8/05 on it so I don't know why it takes the extra 7 & a half weeks to get to me... But this happens every year.

But I haven't been asked for any extra info about childcare - maybe because I only claim for £11 week? I've been claiming childcare for as many years as I've been claiming TC (6 ish years) & have never had to supply any additional info, even when I was claiming for ridiculously high nursery fees for 2.

Apart from the long wait to actually get my paperwork I've been so lucky & have never had any problems with TC at all (apart from actually getting through on the 'phone, but surely that's a given for all of us :rotfl:).

I feel sorry for those of you who are having a difficult time & hope it all gets sorted out soon.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

I have done my renewal, and had the final award letter from last year which says that nothing is owed to me from them, and i owe them nothing.
    BUT>>>
I have had a large payment made into my account this week which I was not expecting! - We have had to make several changes for the upcoming year.
Would this amount, be the amount we have been short-payed by for this year already, so I can assume that out tax credits will increase by this figure divided by 3 (3 payments made already this year).... or can I not be sure until my new award comes?
I just cant figure out where this payment fits in!!
    Many Thanks x

Ring them tomorrow and ask, simples :) In the meantime forget the money is there and if they do cry overpayment at least you can throw it back to them.

That's a nightmare, they have no process for errors or complaints. If it was a private company it wouldn't be acceptable.

Surely you understand that when you ask for these welfare payments, the staff have to check the claims on behalf of the taxpayers who don't claim welfare (these are the ones giving you their hard earned cash)?
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

I agree claims definitely have to be checked - but some of us have to claim even though we are working! I only get £6.70 an hour working at a preschool, but I have to have a job that fits around my 2 children - husband left us 2 years ago and I have no family close by to help with childcare.

bossymoo made Tax Credits sound like a service that you pay for; when in fact, Tax Credits is an HMRC government department that deals with people asking for welfare.

I also bought up two young children on my own too, with no family close by and I worked and had help from other mothers (even though we had just moved to the area) with collecting my children from school/taking my children to clubs . I chose not to claim welfare as I wouldn't have like to jump through all these welfare hoops. All healthy adults have choices.

I have no issue with checks at all, I was merely commenting on the mess they seem to have made of another posters application with childcare costs. As I stated earlier up the thread - I am that tax payer who gets hard earned cash too.
My point was that I suspect an inefficient service costs even more to run. Which is no good for anyone (except, perhaps the additional staff required to help sort out these errors?). I work in a finance department, cost efficiency is a huge thing in business, we have our shareholders to please. Government departments are having budgets slashed - should we expect them to be more efficient with the budgets they do have?

Perhaps they ought to join MSE ;) learn how to live the champagne lifestyle on the lemonade budget!

I assure you my tax deductions are rather more than my credits towards childcare costs ;) (and mine are not old enough for school yet)

We phoned to renew & I panicked thinking I had an overpayment. Less than a week later our reduced monthly amount was credited & 4 days later we received our notice. No overpayment & payments continuing allbeit halved.

We claim childcare - our costs are £112.50 per week but we have them averaged at £84 a week because hubby teaches so daughter only goes 39 weeks per yr x
