Just thought I would add our experience, renewed over the phone, it was answered quickly, took all of our details not too complicated as we do not have a childcare element, was told not to ring back before some date in July, within a week had a small one off payment in the bank, regular payment on a Friday gone up by £1. Paperwork arrived within 10 days.

No problems again, we never have any issues with them I have always found them quite efficient however as I said before our claim is quite straight forward.

I need help tax credits have completed my check on my childcare and to my horror they reckon that I have been over paid by £1,200.
They have based this on the fact I only pay 106.00 per week . It looks like they have not taken into account the school holidays when the childcare doubles. Has anybody else experienced this issue help is required.

How I worked my childcare out was. £106 per week term time.

Then £189.50 per week in the holidays

This averages out what I thought to 135 per week am I wrong please help s I feel as they have reduced my money by 60 quid per week until december

The appeal form is WTC/AP http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/leaflets/wtc_ap.pdf

Appeals can take a long time. As GD says, the first step should be to ring the compliance officer and just say it appears you haven't taken into account the holiday care and see if you can get them to revise it.

If they refuse, then fill in the appeal form. Make sure you do this (and send it back to HMRC) within 30 days of getting your new award notice. You should send it recorded delivery.

You should also ring the helpline and ask them to amend it going forward if you believe it is correct.

You don't get childcare vouchers or anything do you?

No don't get any vouchers or discount I've worked it out and they have have certainly not taken into account the holidays. Rung tax line hi

This morning and the guy reckons this could have happened as they only take the last four weeks into account. He said ring compliance on mondAy and see if they will re look at it if not it goes down the appeal route.
  • That's Stupid if they only take last 4 weeks as mine was zero but over the 12 months it averaged at 52 as holidays only.

So how will they work mine out?

Hi I renewed by post, sent form back on 3rd June and this week I have had my payment but it is £20 less than usual. Our income did go up slightly from last year though so was expecting it.

We were checked with our childcare a few weeks previous so i'm thinking this is why it was quicker as they had already checked all that.

I haven't had any one-off payments. I am still waiting for my notice to come in the post though.

4 Weeks for me now, still not heard a dicky bird, helpline won,t let me speak to a human being until it has been 8 weeks. No child care involved just my being self employed since December 2012. How complicated can it be???

As it is 4 weeks now, can I assume that I haven't been selected for a self employed review, as I haven't heard anything? I did read somewhere that the letters for those arrive after about 2 weeks?

    Anyone any ideas?
  • Hi
    I renewed 29th April.
I received my compliance letter 11th June.

However I knew I was getting one as they told me over the phone 4 weeks after I renewed.

    Not sure about self employed.

Last year my friends self employed took 11 weeks but whenever she rang they never told her why just that it was processing. But she had her review few months later.

Are they still paying you all whilst it is still processing?
