Has anyone that is self employed had a straightforward renewal this year? Particularly if this is your first year of self employment and you haven't previously been scrutinised?

All this worrying is just a nightmare......... and I'm due to be paid my normal monthly payment next Monday, so now I'm starting to panic over that going in as normal. Why in this day and age does everything have to take this long???

Because there are still millions of benefit claimants, but less and less staff each year to deal with them.

When you renewed how long were you told to wait to hear?
This seems that anyone told 8 weeks are being checked, anything less is going through quickly.

    Also when did you renew?

I only renewed 10 days ago, so not that long. At the time she said it could take up to 6 weeks and told me not to ring back before the start of July, she did give a specific date but I can't remember it, might have been the 2nd?

I know it isn't long but having just started self employment last December and having read about all these compliance checks they have been running on self employed, it is big worry. I don't have anything to hide and they can see whatever they want but since April because of a previous overpayment, my tax credits have actually gone down. I should be getting £750 a month and am only getting £710. That happens every year until they process the renewal but £40 a month is proving to be a big hit at the moment, I am not earning very much yet, as I have only been trading a few months, so every penny counts.
  • If you were told 6 weeks then you will be fine, if its 10 days i bet it will go through in the next week,

Ive been waiting 6 weeks almost

I hope so the tax credit calculator says I should be getting £771.42 every 4 weeks, at the moment I am getting £710, so it is a big difference. Before April came around and before the increases in the disabled worker element etc, I was getting £740. So despite everything going up they are giving me less! Roll on December when apparently they reckon my overpayment that was their fault will be paid off, its only tsken since 2003.

HI. The mail has lost my renewal sent 3 weeks ago. I am being sent a new one. This could take weeks.

Is there anything to stop me phoning up and renewing and just saying I have my pack anyway? With employment figures. Worried it will be cutting it fine otherwise.

I know they ask envelope colour anything else? Can I just say I have it.

As you have had your renewal form you can just ring and give figures over the phone so no probs :j

Hi sorry for jumping on this post, just wondering, I renewed my tax credits this morning, was told not to phone back until some day in July, ours are just straight forward, my partner works, I don't, we don't claim child care costs so how long do you think this will take to sort out, thanks :)
