Thanks Drunkstar. I followed your advice and within 5 minute had got £5 a month off insted of the £2 that I recieved through the post. I also now only have a new contract for 12 months instead of 18 and another new wireless router and phone. Oh, and they,ve thrown in BT vision as well. Not bad for a 2 minute call.

When you say they threw in BT Vision, are you saying they waived the £90 connection and installation charge?

I've been out of contract with BT Broadband for a while now (option 3) and last night I signed up online for their £2 discount/8mb upgrade/free hub/free phone offer with free evening and weekends calls.

Just wondering if I could have done better

    Yes you could have.
Online have less discounts than the people in the COT department. You could get a £5 discount from them. ;)

    Thanks Drunkstar.

What about the BT Vision? Do they offer it free (ie no connection charge) or would you still have to stump up the £90?

    TIA

I just wanted to say thank you to Drunkstar after the advice he had given, I phoned up and asked what they would offer as my 12 month contract had ended. I have now got option 3 instead of 2 and it has gone down from £26.99 what I currently pay to £19.99, I have got BT vision (no £90 set up fee) and as I already have a hub I asked them to chuck in the hub phone. He went away for sometime but came back and said we will send that out too for free.

    thanks very much!

Message for Drunkstar. I've been reading this thread with interest and would like your opinion.

I have been on BT Broadband since June 2003 - I've just looked up my bill. I'm paying £21.27 excluding VAT for 2Mb 20GB WBDD - I've no idea which option this is! I need a new router as I've just bought a computer with Vista but am wondering whether to stay with BT. What's the best deal I could expect? I was looking at the Option 3 for 18 months with free hub and phone at £24.99 per month. Can I do better than this? Your input would be much appreciated.

We are currently on BT BB Option 2 @£19.56 with the telephone on BT Option 1. I noticed on my bill today that although I should get free weekend and evening calls for free, I have been charged for them since having had the BT Hub in November 06. So I phoned the number given earlier and the advisor said that basically my additional phone is picking up our normal landline and not the BT Talk line. He then advised that I could get around that by having a BT Home Hub phone, so I asked how much and he responded it's in the post for free!! So I asked if there was anything else he could shave of the cost of the package and advised that I should ring back after 9th Sept (as contract runs out Nov) and they'll be able to offer me a discount, but it would mean entering a new 12 month/18month contract. Is there anyway I can get a discount without entering into a new contract, as we might not be in this country for another 12/18 months (emigrating)? Any ideas/comments are more than welcome and thanks to Drunkstar for giving all this very useful advice!

Sandieb: you could get Option 3 for £19.99 with free hub and free Bt Vision. Ring the oft quoted number for it, say you are considering leaving and want to see what we can do. ;)

Simone: I am afraid that we cant give discounts without putting you in a new contract. Sorry

    Thanks for that Drunkstar.

I spoke to a VERY helpful young man who indeed offered me Broadband Option 3, with free Home Hub, free Hub phone, free BTVision and installation - absolutely NO extra charge - in fact for £5 less a month. I had expected to be offered an 18 month contract, but all this on the 12 month contract. Excellent result.

You have saved me a LOT of money!

    Many many thanks again.
