Trying desperately to get the tomtom software to work on my lobster, however to no avail it keeps crashing when I go to select a voice. It has been suggested by myusernameistaken that I may have the incorrect software version of tomtom and this may be the problem, however I would have thought that having the wrong software version i.e nokia, then this would have prevented me from getting to the voice selection stage. My issue is that having purchased the software that I have I am loathed to buy more software for the chance of it not working, therefore if someone could possibly pm me with potential solutions or a link to the correct software I would be most grateful.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi Ali,

Did you install TomTom software to your SD card? If so, TomTom stores all its voice files in VOICES directory in the root of the memory card. Within this directory should be a set of files in the format of dataxx.chk and dataxx.vif.

I initially had problems installing TomTom 6 on my PDA whereby the installer didn't create the VOICES directory. I had to manually create it and add in all the voices files from the CD. I then had to re-run the installation process and that seemed to fix my problem.

Also, just to confirm, TomTom should have created the following directories in the root of your SD card:
    itn
    License
    schemes
    TomTom
    VOICES

Also it should have put a files called Data.chk in the /MyDocuments/TomTom folder on the phone itself.

Also, if you have installed any maps, make sure the directory names ends with -Map e.g. Great_Britain-Map.

If none of that works, another thing you could try is maybe deleting all the files in the voices directory and see if that stops TomTom crashing (remember to backup the voices directory to your PC hard drive).

    Darryl,

Thanks for your help, unfortunately I am still no further forward with the install. I have tried everything that you said. I have the files and folders you mention, but I do have more folders than the five you have mentioned ( i also have images, others, raster, sounds, system, videos, zip and my map) - perhaps I do have the wrong version ?

Anyway I tried deleting all of the voices however it would let me go no further, I then tried it with just one voice on the sd card and again once I had chosen the voice it just hung.

I will attempt to get another version of the software and try and rectify it. I hate these things beating me.

    Thanks again

    Ali

I say it's the wrong version of tomtom because the problem you are describing is exactly the same problem I had when I tried to install tomtom mobile 5 for symbian based mobiles on my lobster. It would hang at the selecting a voice page. Look on the box that came with your tomtom and post here what version you are trying to install.

    Yeah!!!!

I managed to get it working, not sure if it is the right version or not, but it does seem to work on the phone, only problem is that it keeps telling me that its losing the gps signal but at least its working.

Darryl, thanks so much for your help, after replying to you the last time I re-read your post and realised that there was no tomtom folder in mydocuments, I created one and copied the data.chk file over from the tomtom root on the card (nearly wrore route - satnav on the brain), I also deleted all the other non-essential folders apart from system one and then it installed.

Brilliant and thanks for all your help Very much appreciated.

    Ali

The software I am using only states tomtom version 5.2

If it's working, it's the right version. Which GPS receiver are you using? Both of mine work fine with my Lobster.

Using the navman spin 100 as bought from total pda, I actually bought two as to buy it with google checkout it was only another £7 for the second one.

    Typical mse'r huh

You can - You are just putting it in the wrong place probably. If you have a memory card put it in the storage card\ my documents folder. Don't put it in any subfolder.

If you don't have a storage card just put it in your my documents folder - again don't put it in a sub folder
