    8. No Bumping Of Posts. Please do not just bump posts for the sake of it. This disrupts the boards.

Thanks for that :j .......But that doesn't say that you can't bump posts. It says don't do it for the sake of it..... the way I am interpreting that, is when someone replies solely with 'bump' just to bring (bump) the post to the top of the forum. I belong to a few facebook local pages where people can sell stuff.... individuals post 'bump' on their posts on there, to bring the item back to the top of the page. I'm guessing that this is what this rule is referring to. Also see here for confirmation of how I am interpreting this
When a member posts in a thread for no reason but to have it go to the top, it is referred to as a bump or bumping. It has been suggested that "bump" is an acronym of "bring up my post";[

If you're adding to the post in any way, then that's not bumping for the sake of it. That is adding to the post, so whether it's to point out it's a fur item or that you're having problems entering.

I can just about understand the annoyance at people replying solely to say 'thanks' - but this is generally newbies who are yet to fathom out the complex world of a forum. Afterall some newbies even post their phone numbers and address as they have absolutely no idea of the workings of this forum. We all began online once and IMO a polite guiding response is all that's required in these circumstances.
:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j

Thank You for using my name :T

I choose to try & keep the main comp board free from unnecessary bumping according to the forum rule as it messes up the board

I accept everyone enters comps differently, I enter as they are posted, therefore bumping doesn't affect me in any way at all.

What do you mean by "messes up" the board; I'm sure it doesn't affect any other compers who enter as I do. I do wonder how it affects people at all.

As per my post earlier, I simply cannot understand why anyone would be subscribed to the threads posted in some of the examples on this post? These are simple competition posts, one offs, no further answers needed etc, so why would you need to be subscribed? Being subscribed would be the only way I can think of that bumping would really annoy you unless I am really missing something here?

Subscribing means that you can keep count of how many comps you've entered, something that the green tick doesn't do unfortunately

    Ok

I comp from the main board. I go through the comps back to where my last tick or cross was

If a post gets bumped back up to the top of the board I then have to go back into it to see if there is any more useful info, I.E new route to enter, may be you can enter it more than once that kind of useful bump.

While I am going back to all the bumped threads I have already dealt with the new posted comps get pushed down the page.

These comps are then easily missed, the other day I completely missed three comps together because of all the bumping two were big comps, ipad & something else electrical I don't remember.

This is why we try & keep the main comp board free as possible

But surely you are bumping it again just to say that

Correct & the reason why is:

1, If they are new they have learned something & won't hopefully do it again
2, it stops more people continuing the conversation by bumping again to say something equally useless

    1. If they are new, they don't often come back to the thread to see what others have posted.
    2. What evidence do you have of this?

1, If they still keep doing it then I P.m them this is a s a last resort as I would prefer to keep my conversations away from P.M. Most people do go back to see what someone has written after them

2, Many, many times have a scroll through :D
