Agree with all replies, OP you are too SOFT. My MIL is the same and it drives me nuts. Your dd is 17 she needs to grow up. You need some time on your own aswell. Put your foot down, she can go to the docs by herself, can she not make her own way to dancing also? She's only saying she's going to leave so she gets even more of your attention. Stop being walked over.

has she got a job- part time or otherwise , if not i suggest she gets one asap , a bit of responsibility and her own cash will make a world of difference . my daughter started working at our local hotel when she was 14 and she went from being a hormonal bull in china shop to adult over night

    Hi,
And secondly, the more meltdowns she has about red bull

just a wee aside, there was an item in a sports programme on Saturday about these not really beneficial and doing more harm than good.

Here are the side effects of energy drinks that you need to know about:

    • The high amount of caffeine in many energy drinks can overstimulate the heart and nervous system and increase blood pressure.
    • The high amount of caffeine in many energy drinks can cause dehydration.
    • The high amount of sugar in many energy drinks can cause energy to spike and then crash.
    • The high amount of sugar in many energy drinks can lead to excess calories and weight gain.
    • Some of the herbs in energy drinks may not interact well with certain medications.
If you're consuming energy drinks because you're frequently tired, there are better ways to boost your energy: get adequate sleep, exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet. You also need to stay well hydrated, as dehydration is a common cause of tiredness.

Water is the best type of fluid to drink to stay well hydrated because water is processed by the body differently than other types of fluids. Water also has plenty of health benefits. Visit the Importance of Drinking Water page for information on water's many health benefits.

In conclusion, many energy drinks can have unhealthy or harmful side effects, and they should be used infrequently, if at all.

    Hi,

(There was the lady marathon runner who collapsed and died during a marathon couple of months ago.)

Claire Squires died because she took a performance enhancing (legal at the time) drug. Not because of Red Bull, so that's a bit misleading.

Why aren't you getting them together to talk. They are both old enough to have their own ideas.....and they may come up with some compromise ideas that you haven't thought of ...... and are far more likely to WANT to conform to "new rules" if they have a hand in the deciding of them. Stop treating them differently -and make them act as a family instead of several people who happen to live under the same roof !

i think you should have a look at this petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/h2o/petition.html

Its serious stuff and makes you think twice about what you put into your body

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

She has threaten to leave many times before, but this time it seems different.
Either treat her threats as noise on the line, or call her bluff. Your choice.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

sorry, I was meaning energy drinks in general.
  • You say that her boyfriend is a lovely boy but also that his parents like your daughter. It's just their age, kids always think other people's parents are nicer than their own. I think she's playing you and you need to be a bit firmer with her. If she moved in with her boyfriend, she wouldn't behave like she does with you.

It's a hard time but what I would do is leave them to sort out who's taken what and don't get involved if you can avoid it. Treat her in a more adult way, like you did when talking about uni. I'd wait for her to be quiet and in a good mood to do this and the times she plays up, just quietly tell her she is not being very grown up and then ignore her, go into another room, don't give her attention. Just what I would do but you know your children best and know what will work. It's a shame they don't come with a manual.

    Hi,

just a wee aside, there was an item in a sports programme on Saturday about these not really beneficial and doing more harm than good.

Virtually everything, including healthy options, are bad for you if consumed to excess. Even drinking too much water can and has lead to death as it causes hyponatremia and a not insignificant number of people every year suffer symptoms of milder forms of water intoxication, usually during heat spikes or when holidaying in a hot climate when they are used to a colder climate. Hyponatremia is also a contributory element in deaths from some diseases (though not diseases commonly found in the UK).

I doubt many people would consider energy drinks to be "healthy" but most people are sensible enough to use them in moderation like alcohol. In moderation and not consumed to excess, there is very little evidence that energy drinks provide greater health risks than most other things. Certainly, if you were replacing water with energy drinks you'd be very unhealthy but very few people are going to be doing that.
