    No.

    It's not racist.

Just the typical rantings of a little Englander that regards anything different to their own lives as medieval and backwards.
Perhaps you would be better off in Birmingham.

Never fancied Turkey ever since i saw Midnight Express..............one of those films you never forget.

It's only a film you know - there have been loads of gritty films made about nearly every place in the world.
I've read the book & seen the film, the film isn't 100% faithful to his book, they dramatised it a bit. The male rape from the guard didn't happen, what did happen was a consensual homosexual relationship with a fellow western prisoner.

My worst holiday experience was New Orleans.

We were travelling around various parts of USA and were due to stay in the French Quarter of New Orleans for 3 nights.

When driving to our hotel, the area made me feel unsafe. We parked our hire car in the hotel car park.

That evening we looked around the area and I felt uneasy the whole time. We didnt stay out late. When we woke in the morning I made my husband go and check the car as I had a bad feeling. The car window had been smashed, they were obviously looking for anything that may have been left in the car overnight.

We got the car fixed that morning and drove out of there as fast as we could. No way was I staying another 2 nights.

This was around 15 years ago. I can only hope the floods a few years ago improved things!!

By my reckoning I have visited 67 different countries around the world, met everyone from peasants to a Prime Minister, slept on beaches,five-star hotels and everything in between ,eaten virtually every kind of animal and enjoyed the company of more foreigners than I can remember.

Turkey and Turks come at the bottom of that list.

I'm very lucky in the fact that I used to be a TA so got quite cheap holidays and have been able to stay and fly to some amazing places, the one place I went to but would not choose to go back to would be New York! I found it a bit mehh.
I am in love with a little place in Turkey called Dalyan which is stunning, no brits abroad just lovely and quiet with not a McDonald's in sight.
On the other hand went to Marmaris years ago and it did put me off Turkey for years as it was an absolute whole of a place.
