Where are the worst places you've been on holiday?

My worst was probably Magaluf....but if you'd asked me that 15 years ago, I would have said differently. Its just that when I went back when I was 28 I realised I was past all that and couldn't get home fast enough.
Benidorm was awful too...however I was pregnant, swollen and fed up....maybe if I was allowed to drink a few cocktails, I would have just had a laugh and accepted it for what it was....I think that's the key isn't it?
I LOVE Turkey. Only been to Olu Deniz & Hisaronu and the surrounding area. I find the people super friendly, the food fantastic and the weather fabby.
Each to their own, i'm one of the lie on a sunbed for a week while the kids play type of holiday maker. I work my butt off all year running around like a headless chicken, with a severe lack of vitamin D due to the NE of Scotland climate, I need to stay still in the sun for a while!0 -
I don't feel I can judge a place based on the weather alone. I've been to Rio and Australia and both rained the whole time but are traditionally considered very sunny spots. For the record though, Rio is a terrible city when the weather is poor.
I'm adding a new place to my worst destinations list though. Jakarta in Indonesia. Awful city. The one good thing about it is that individuals are mostly extremely friendly and helpful. However the staring for the rest of the time is constant. It's also painfully humid, dirty, theres nothing to do and it feels dangerous. Not in a crime type of way but it has some of the worst driving I've ever experienced, people completely ignoring red lights, literally having to jump out of the way to avoid scooters driving down the tiny pavements. Never again.0 -

We hired a car and found a lot of the North of the Island the same. On a positive note the people and food were lovely.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

My Mother made us go on a family holiday to Merthyr Tydfil, the land of suicides, incapacity benefits claimants and premature death. To this day I don't know what possessed her to think that this was a good idea. Even the bus driver there thought we were nuts to come and visit the place - he told us we'd have been better off staying at home. He was right.[/QUOTE

Calella in Spain was our worst holiday.
Completely built up with run down hotels, nothing interesting to do and loads of karaoke bars
Just before we came home we found a couple of very Spanish streets with nice little cafes and restaurants, much more my thing but our hols were nearly over by then
Easy to get to Barcelona from there so we did that a couple of times during the week
This was a last minute bargain holiday, wasnt really that much of a bargain in my opinion -never again0 -
It is interesting seeing the comments about Turkey. I've never been there, but I have been to Northern Cyprus 9 years ago and yes, people do stop you every 30 seconds to try and get you to eat at their cafe or restaurant.
People have to remember that Turks know exactly what they are doing and they just want your money - they couldn't care less about you, though some people just don't understand this and they think they are being take care of and treated well. It is not a coincidence that British tourists can go to Turkey for the same price as going to Spain!
If you travel to eastern Turkey or south east Turkey to places such as Adana, Diyarbakir, Van, Erzurum and Gaziantep, you will notice that it is not as developed as Istanbul or the western part of Turkey. You will notice that a lot has been left in ruins, such as old Armenian Churches.
Eastern Turkey used to be Western Armenia until the Ottomans came along. The Ottoman Turks (today's Turkish government) committed Genocide against 1.5 million Armenian people back in the early 20th century before the Jewish Holocaust. This is why Turkey focuses on developing Western Turkey for tourists and not Eastern Turkey because they know that one day in the future they would be liable to returning the land back to Armenia. The worst in all of this is that the Turkish government spends billions of dollars denying that they committed genocide even though it is pretty much acknowledged by many countries, majority of historians, many organisations etc... The only key countries that don't recognize it are Britain, United States and Israel ! Surprise surprise!
I always like educating people so this is why my post has turned into a history lesson at the same time as reviewing Turkey/Northern Cyprus, because one needs to understand the history to understand the present.
