Where are the worst places you've been on holiday?

Another thread (about Miami) got me thinking. Someone said it was the single worst place they've been. I didn't like Miami that much, but it's not the worst place I've been.
Where are the worst places you have been?
First one that springs to my mind is Sunny Beach, Bulgaria. We also had a bad day (from a cruise) in Agadir. Having been back twice (also for the day on cruises on the same Itinerary), I've sort of grown to like it. Won't be going back to Sunny Beach though. :rotfl:

Dublin! It is the only place I wanted to go home from after about a day
little to see or do there! If it had been a warmer time of the year we would have been better hiring a car and going around other places.
Miami was fine for us but we were more just passing through.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Playa de las americas, Tenerife, in August many years ago. Hideous.0

My first holiday abroad was to Kavos in Corfu. We didn't know where we were staying until we got there and we were the last to be dropped off the coach. The apartment was a hovel with cockroaches in, there was building work going on next door and the resort itself was like an 18-30 place with nothing but bars and burger joints. I was vegetarian and there was hardly anything for me to eat, I lived off processed cheese and bread rolls from the shop and Greek salads. One night we found a place that did a really nice pizza, but afterwards I spent the whole night throwing up.
The weather was not great either, only one day was hot enough to go to the beach (although I am not keen on the lying about sunbathing thing, I would prefer sun to the monsoon type conditions that we had).
It was so awful I wanted to go home, but the only flight we could get was to Manchester (we lived in Bristol) and my then OH refused to get that one.
We did manage a couple of days out, one a boat trip to the Greek mainland and another day we hired a little moped and drove around the island, which was quite nice. Most nights we went to a bar and I got really drunk on Ouzo so I could get to sleep.
I would go back to Corfu but not to Kavos.0 -
Freeport, Grand Bahama, but it was 1979!
Locals spat at us or offered us drugs, they had to pick the cockroaches out of the fruit before adding it to our drink, there were loads more cockroaches in the room, the air conditioning was non existent and we were offered chicken that bled when you cut into it. The only place to go was a casino that had a £25 min stake....a fortune in 1979!!! Beaches were lovely -apart from the sand fleas.
I'm sure it's nothing like that now, but somehow never been tempted...0 -
Santorini - way way too hot for me, and dreadful food."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

The Bahamas,
Awful place, it did not live up to my expectations at all. Nassau is a giant tourist trap in itself, the people are not friendly and hound you for drugs, dodgy cab rides and wouldn't stop pestering. Some of the boat's private island's are nice though, but I'd never go back.0 -

Yes, you should have left Dublin and seen more of the countryside and coast as it's spectular
Not had a worse holiday as such. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -
Puerto Rico. The one in Gran Canaria.
Imagine Blackpool with sun and a sandy beach. But without the nice bits.
PS. I dont like Blackpool either.
We only went because it was very cheap and the kids loved it. Beach, sea and a play centre at McDonalds so it was perfect for them!0 -
