  • Tunisia, went last year and it was dreadful, also had a couple of hours in Rhyl couple of years back, it was like an episode of Shameless

    Marmaris, Turkey.

Couldn't have a stroll without being pestered or annoyed every 10 paces. Someone always trying to get you into their restaurant or sell you something. Just felt we could never actually rest.

This was the experience I had in Turkey too

Skiathos - thankfully someone else paid. Never been anywhere with such an awful choice of food - lots of restaurants all serving the same!

UK - Cornwall - hate it with a passion.

Of the places mentioned in this thread I've been to Dublin, Playa de las Americas, Wales, Lanzarote, Scotland,Marmaris and Cornwall and don't have a bad word to say about any of them. I've also been to a thousand other places, wouldn't say I've ever had a bad holiday.

I don't really consider myself a 'glass half full' sort of person' either but this thread makes me think maybe I'm not so pessimistic after all! Lighten up guys!

Gran Canaria 1998. Dreadful holiday rep. and real old banger of a hire car. Went back - for some reason - a few years ago and was great. Often depends on specific factors or incidents. Not really been anywhere "advertised" as a nice place to visit then found the opposite (unless the weather ruins it...)

Love Lanzarote, but then I don't go clubbing, and go to a hotel with great food, who wouldn't love the sun there, particularly in winter, the bit i go hasnt got the black sand.
Tenerife is great for sun but again I go to a quieter resort out of school hols, self catering as the local restaurants are poo.
Most of the places mentioned here seem to be well documented as acquired tastes ( I loved my holiday in Tunisia ,great value for money, but didnt like their attitude to women for example so I wouldn't return there and I was in a reasonably well protected resort. )
I would only go to morocco Rhyl , Blackpool, Great Yarmouth if I was in a 5 star hotel , all expenses paid, actually not great yarmouth at all.

I'd never go to Turkey as I don't like their human rights record.

A tip , if you are going somewhere questionable, go to an older persons hotel , it's less risky and quieter.

Lanzarote. Very cloudy and overcast to start with, which with the black volcanic rock just made me feel very depressed. If I'd wanted to feel depressed I would have just stopped in Brum - same feeling for a lot less money.

You went to lanzarote off season..:rotfl:
  • Turkey.
    Hands down.
Ugly country populated by ugly, unfriendly people.
Given the choice I think I'd even rather go to Birmingham than Turkey.

Whereas I liked Turkey. We went to Marmaris but made the very sensible decision not to stay on the resort but outside of it. We must have been around 5miles from Marmaris but it was still known as that. As we were out in the middle of nowhere, it was far nicer. We only went into town once and didn't do that again as it wasn't very nice! Plenty of day boat trips made the place far more beautiful.

Depending on what you do and why you go somewhere can certainly change perspectives.
