Where are the worst places you've been on holiday?

I was looking at spending a few weeks in Australia this year, staying with friends in Melbourne and then making our way up to the Gold Coast.
Hotels were minimum £80 per night (1 + 2) and car hire around £500 a week with buses being expensive and trains non existent costs to get around were sky high.
What is it actually like once there? Are the costs still astronomically and prohibitively high? I asked my friend for a chain like Travelodge and he said there was none?
The hotel costs sound about right but your car hire sounds very expensive - is that a one way from Melb up to the Gold Coast?
It's certainly expensive to spend pounds in Oz right now, the exchange rate is not kind to British tourists. I don't know the Gold Coast but having just moved back to the UK from Melbourne I think restaurant costs are fair there. Melbourne is a foodie city and you can get amazing food at really great value.0 -

They are, we had a great trip on the "SeaScreamer" here, loads of Dolphins to be seen.0 -
I will try to put these in the order which I hated them the most - some are obviously holidays I was taken on as a child - denoted - C.
Weymouth - C - nothing but seaweed on the beach and I had third degree burns from the sun - aged 4 - irresponsible parents of a "ginge".
Caister - C - grey, rained, cold, horrible.
Morecambe - C - Grey, boring, boring, boring, boring - you get the idea?
Fleetwood - C - even more boring than Morecombe - how can a holiday make a youngster braindead at nine?
Then my adult holidays:
Brusseles and Amsterdam - tacky, dirty, lots of sleaze (which I do not find attractive at all - give me a classy bird, with intelligence, guile and subtlety any time)
Capri - total rip off - do not go there - nothing to see - but the sea!
Sorrento - too crowded, people trying to scam you, restaurants very poor, too busy to relax, too hot - for a ginge!0 -

Avoid.
I think there are places on the island that are....tacky? Bugibba springs to mind.
We stayed in Marshallokk and loved it, it is a small fishing village. Very far removed from the over comercialised areas of the island.0 -

My favorite part of the island ?
Malta airport - my fondest memory of the place. Leaving.0 -
Santorini - way way too hot for me, and dreadful food.
I am surprised. I went there as part of a Greek island hopping trip which was one of my best. i loved the look of the Island as we approached by ferry. We did a fantastic walk from Fira to Oia and watched the sunset. The food we had was also fine.0 -

Turkey and Turks come at the bottom of that list.
I imagine that you didn't go to Cappadocia? Fantastic landscape with very unusual rock formations. Superb for walking with wonderful photos from a hot air balloon. Local people were friendly and food was delicious. One of my best trips. Other highlights include cruise down the Nile (small group boat), Greek Island hopping, Croatia, Slovenia, Berlin, Bologna (with Italian language courses), Venice, Amalfi coast, Lake Garda, Cinqua Terra, Berlin & Heidelberg.0
