Turkey - don't remember where exactly so I just categorise all of it as cr#p.

There are some dreadful places to holiday in Turkey but equally there are some amazing places in Turkey to holiday. Its all about doing your research first.

The recurring problem I keep noticing is that some people are judging an entire country from a little chavvy hamlet.

Turkey for instance, Marmaris is a dive, Icemeler a bit better - Selcuk is beautiful, Istanbul fantastic.

You can't expect to go to a beach resort that attracts Jeremy Kyles finest and it actually be the holiday of a lifetime. I mean come on

Exactly!! Do your research first and don't go to the biggest known resorts in Turkey. Some of my best holidays have been in Turkey on the coast - with trips inland.

Do your research. Type the word Review into a search engine followed by the name of the resort or area. You will ALWAYS get a few whingers but if the majority give it high reviews then its a good sign. Look for the the things that are important to you in a review.

Hated Istanbul, Stopped off at various Canary Islands on a cruise we were just glad we hadn't ever booked to stay there!! Not overly keen on mainland Spain, and not fussed over Cyprus. That said, we always have a great time on holiday but we wouldn't go back to any of the above as there are always new places to visit.

Bucharest, Santiago and Moscow are my least liked places. I just couldn't get into them.

    I wish I hadn't opened this thread now,what a miserable bunch you are ;)

If you do proper research before you go you're more likely going to find somewhere that appeals to you.

For those dissing Turkey,it's a beautiful island,so is Ibiza for that matter, try getting out of the touristy parts and exploring.

Next stop for me that cloudy, windy, depressing isle of Lanzarote

I've never had a dreadful holiday but two resorts I would definitely never go back to are:

Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria. Weird place. Bars and restaurants based around mall type centres. No atmosphere at all. Place we stayed was badly infested with cockroaches.

Qawra, Malta. Absolutely awful time share pests, to the point of being quite aggressive.

    Top-class internetting ! :D

The question of ignoring tourist resorts in Turkey is largely a superfluous one.
Turkey is essentially a package holiday destination and whilst there's a small amount of choice dependant on which airport you fly from you're pretty much resigned to a resort.
Away from the cities and resorts Turkey is still basically a Third World country with all the morals, social conventions and dodgy areas that accompany that.
As a whole the country is more like its neighbours Syria and Iraq than its European nieghbour of Greece which is a beautiful, civilized country.
I suppose it all depends whether you prefer a country where democracy was invented or where the kebab was invented.
