    What an interesting assertion.

Do you have a background in psychology? I'm interested in why you can make such a categorical statement. You used the word 'must' after all. Do you have a link to studies I could read. I find this subject quite fascinating and would be interested in reading further about what it is that you saw in the OP's post that made you sure this was 'learned behaviour'.

Or are you just an armchair psychologist perhaps?

I saw that she thought it was acceptable/would condone it, so very likely has seen it within the family, of course I cannot be certain but on balance of probability I would expect it to be so. Not qualified in psychology BUT learned in the school of common sense.

  • Dearie me - there's not a lot of people in support of the poster is there? I am though. I was bullied at school too and some of the insults have really stuck with me. I still believe I'm ugly because of what someone said to me 30 years ago. I was so shy and lacked confidence that I never stood up for myself but my god, I wish I had had the courage to punch some of the bullies! It's the only 'language' they understand.

I'll get flamed for this but I don't care - I've had two double vodkas! My son when he was in 2nd year (year 9) punched the school bully in the face and I applauded him. Yes, my son got punished for it but I was actually quite proud of him - he's very quiet and a polite young man but the little bullying !!!!!! deserved it. He was picking on boys younger than him and my son decided enough was enough.

"Sticks and stones" my !!!!! - I'd rather have been battered.

have to laugh but of course I don't agree with it

Like I said in my previous post. I agree.

I agree that this is highly likely - and I AM qualified in psychology. Feel free to PM for details of relevant studies.

I wasn't brought up with violence but that's my inner reaction to "you've pushed me too far". I stop myself because I know what would happen to me but it doesn't stop me from imagining the satisfaction of giving someone a smack round the chops. I was brought up with verbal abuse but try not to use it against others.

Feel free to post any you trip up on on your way to meet your next patient.

I'm qualified in psychology as well, and to say that this is a learned behaviour [and blaming the parents] is completely preposterous.

Yeah when my DS2 was 8 months old and found smacking me in the nose and biting my chin terribly funny, it was because I taught him it by smacking him in the face and biting him *rolls eyes*
