I hope everything is fine for you Betty. I know it is worrying but spotting isn't always a bad thing. One of my pregnancies I had lots of bleeding even clots and everything was fine.

Hoping you are feeling okay Betty. Were they checking for hcg levels? That's what epu did for me last week. I got the results the same day but they need a series of tests to show if levels are rising correctly. My cervix was closed and they were a lot less concerned about the bleeding after that was checked. Did they do an internal exam?

Angi, can I just ask, why did you decline the Nuchal test but then pay for a private one? Is it the risk of inaccurate results you are worried about? I presume they are important to you as you wouldn't continue with a pregnancy where the child was disabled? I hope that doesn't offend, I just don't understand. I think i may have missed some of your earlier posts.

Got my scan at 10am, feeling very relaxed about it actually. Had a lot of pain, not cramping, the last couple of days but I am aware that I am over analysing everything so just quietly hoping for the best.

Hi Lily - not offended at all. Yes it is because I thought the false positive rate with the NHS tests was way too high at 1 in 30 compared to 1 in 170 and as I have decided to have a harmony test rather than an amnio or CVS if I am high risk (which costs £750) I wanted to minimise the chance of a false positive. Also the private test uses 5 soft markes (nose bone, venus ductus etc) instead of the NHS's 1, plus 4 blood markers rather than the NHS's 2. So hopefully that means they wouldn't identify a problem incorrectly, due to chance. Hard as it would be, I don't think I would want to continue with a DS pregnancy, and if I did, well I'd rather know ahead of time. I watched a thing on you tube that showed different parents in different situations, eg false positive, false negative, true negative - the ones who found out there was a problem at the birth seemed to have far worse experiences than the ones who found out before.
Also the private test did a full anatomy check which was very reassuring, and means things like spina bifida and brain problems are now very unlikely. You don't get that reassurance on the NHS until 20 weeks (there is still a chance I could have a problem at 20 weeks but much less likely now)
The hard part now is waiting for the blood results back, but the sonographer seemed to think it would be unlikely I'd come back as high risk based on the soft markers, and with a 1/170 chance of coming back high risk it probably won't be me (touches wood furiously again).

An added unexpected bonus is the sonographer had a guess at the sex - thinks its a girl!

Thinking positive thoughts for you Sweaty Betty x
  • Thinking of you and your scan this morning Lily, hope everything is tip-top :-)
Betty, hope the bleeding has stopped now too and the epu can reassure you. I think lots and lots of people bleed during pregnancy and everything is fine but its hard to think that when it hasn't been you in the past. Fingers crossed for you.
Ani- good news about your scan, hope your blood test is good too :-)
  • Hope everything is OK for you Betty, and good luck for your scan Lilly.

I've got my second scan this morning too...had one ten days ago but baby was too curled up and I have a tilted uterus, so they couldn't scan me properly. Anyhow, wasn't too nervous about it, (we saw heartbeat and everything was in the right place last time) but was checking my notes last night and it says that I'll require a consultant appointment. I'm pretty sure this wasn't mentioned last time, but I'm now panicking about why I need to see the consultant. Has anyone else had this before??? Doesn't help that DH can't get time off work so can't come, though my mum is coming with me instead, so at least I'll not be own my own.

Just hope I stop feeling so queasy soon so I can get to hospital for 10am!

Is it your first baby? If you've had a previous c section or birth complications they book you to see a consultant.

Otherwise it could be something they do in your area with first pregnancies? I know I was assigned a consultant with my first but didn't actually see him.

Toatsamazeballs day today :D Decided to get the doppler out the draw and see if I could hear anything as I've been worrying myself sick. :D nice strong heartbeat felt. Counted 45bpm in 15 seconds so calling that roughly 180bpm :D

    Soooooooo Happy :D
