Had midwife booking in appointment. She went through the book of questions about family history, health etc. Tested wee for protein & checked blood presssure. All fine.

    No bloods taken.

Only issue was that due to my BMI of 35 I should have been on a high dose of folic acid which hasn't been mentioned to me (either by GP or FS). I have been taking pre-conception multi vitamins with a standard folic acid dose. I've now got the folic acid which I have to take until 14 weeks.

I should get a letter through the post in the next couple of weeks with a scan date.

Making midwife appts will be fun as she is only at the surgery on one day a fortnight.

    Private scan booked for Wednesday.

How many weeks do you need to be to see a heartbeat at scan? I'm allowed an early scan, but don't want to go too early & see nothing and upset myself. I'm 5+1 today, so was thinking next week so 6+1 - 6+5? Or should I wait until the week after? Just really busy that week with Easter & work!

Here in Ireland most places recommend waiting until 7 weeks if the scan is just for reassurance to reduce the chances of having to be rescanned. I had one at 6 wk 5 and we seen the heartbeat and all was we and clear. Here if they do abdominal one first and if it is not clear they do a vaginal one.

If you have no symtoms that anything is wrong and you can I would wait

Good luck with the scan on wed TTC40

TTC40 my BMI is currently higher than yours and I am consultant led. They only time they upped my Folic acid was when I was pregnant with Twins. I wouldn't worry too much.

Feeling kinda nervous about my first midwife appointment this afternoon. Not sure why! Think it's the reality of it all hitting home! eek. And nerves about what she might ask/say, if I've been doing things right/wrong, or if she asks me something I don't know the answer to. I don't want to look silly. It feels weird enough that no doctor has confirmed I'm actually pregnant, and the tests I did were ages ago!

Edit: Also, is she going to weigh me?! I weighed myself recently and I think I have put on about 10lb in the last 2 months - I am not normally this heavy but I think it's the combo of water weight, general swelling up (I have a fat tummy now, never had a flabby tum before!) and only being able to stomach bland food like bread and crisps (used to eat a lot of salads before!) I'm so nervous about what she is going to say!

Poppy It isn't that bad. she will probably weight you and get info from you. They are generally quite run of the mill and I haven't had any lecture me yet ;)

Thread hopping - I was told to take folic acid until 20 weeks because of a wheat intolerance as a precaution. Lots of pregnancy vitamins have them in so it's safe to take all the way through. In Canada, all women of child-bearing age take it - pregnant or not!

I wasn't weighed. I told her my BMI & she just wrote it down.

I was expecting more checks TBH.

Main questions which you may have to ask others about are family health history for both you & OH.

This pregnancy thing is just one worry after another. Today's worry is why I don't feel sick!
