Still no scan letter :( but I did get my prescriptions certificate card today :)

I am considered high risk (high BMI + on depression meds), and at my 2nd booking appointment she rang the consultant office so that's booked for 23 Dec! I really hope the scan is before then.

I can really see that the NHS is different in different parts of the country. I'm considered at risk, but not high risk, due to my high BMI (47) and on depression meds. I have an appointment with a doctor 7 January, but I don't know if it's a consultant or not. All of my info came on two letters in the post. My midwife seems like she couldn't have cared less about making the appointments for me!

My midwife said if BMI over 45 you will see a consultant around week 16 - also take a urine sample to this appointment - this is what i've been told :) hope this helps

    Humm, curious isn't it?

Mrs T, the rules state you have a right to pick your own consultant... So you should have been given a printout or some such. Sort of pointless as its just names & locations, so nothing to help you choose. My midwife recomended one who is happy explaining things! But then I accepted a different one to be seen when she advised. I hope I can switch if needed.

LJ My BMI is 37 (I think, might be 36), it'll be week 12 for me. My mum had eclampsia and I was born with incomplete stomach muscles with umbilical hernia... That might have added to the midwife booking an early consultant visit?

We don't get a choice, we get assigned. I don't *have* to accept it though. I'll probably just listen, nod, and do what I want anyway. If someone talks down to me, I'll definitely never go back to them, no matter how much they try to force me.

Also, if they want me to pee, I'll do it there. I'll need to after a very bumpy bus ride anyway!

Even odder... I don't remember a form. The midwife must have done it for me! I had my 1st booking in appointment on 18 November.
Though I'm glad it's come early. Ive just been made redundant and can't get my depression meds cheaper on prepay. So this will save me £7 each month :)

This is off topic, but Robots, couldn't your GP have issued a 3 month prescription for your medicine? I know it's a moot point at the moment, but I was getting mine £7.85 for 3 months worth at a time. Don't know if that may help after your little one is here, but it may not hurt to keep in mind to ask in the future. :)

Hello, hope everyone is OK, just popping in after a full days teacher training shattered!

My OH has coined the term 'scan eve'! It's the eve of my scan! Excited and scared all at the same time, early appointment fortunately (8:40am) so I won't have to wait round all day.

Hoping tomorrow will be the best day of my life...

That's a good idea. Thankyou. I think I did ask but it wouldn't have been with any oomph. Now you've said it is possible I can ask with more determination!:money:

    - we cross posted before. Re 'choosing' a consultant... With all these regional differences in just appointment procedures it helps explain why people get widely different care across the country!
